Well Cappy likes his veggies now at least. Hopefully, this veggie eating will continue for Cheeko. He'll be a very healthy birdie. And that's the most important thing.

So Illusive... I wish now I had found this site BEFORE I bought Poopy! I purchased Kaytee's Parakeet starter kit and it came with a pretty good size bag of "Forti-Diet". Should I be chucking this as soon as possible and buying my own seeds and dried ingredients?
Thank you!
David

well IMHO the cost of that seed that you did buy...errrrm yeah..to your question...the sooner they are on good food and a strong healthy diet that addresses all their needs in a ..and this is important..BALANCED nutritional way the better.

keep feeding what you have...1TBSP in two seed cups every other day...and build up what you can from your grocer in the health food isle or go to BOB RED MILL online and just get what you can a bit here and there for now...

also go to the site for

altaloma seeds...they have the basic budgie mix and many of some other things as well..such as golden flax...oat/groats...hulled buckwheat ..which some of those you can also find in the health food aisle for bobs red mill whichever...but altaloma has free shipping which is great and their stuff is always so fresh and clean..

you want to basically keep protein at 11% with any seeds and grains and human organic is always best...then i believe in that thread there is also a site given for niceeee omg soooo nice fresh herbs and spices which i now order thru for allll my kitchen spices and cappys also...

dont panic just get a bit at a time when you get some herbal salad and petamine (for moulting times)for moults and the herbs and spices etc yada yada then you can make a REALLY good diet for them giving them also the veggies that were mentioned...

btw..poopy giggle that name cracks me up and i LOVE the originality of it ..wish id of thought of it...anyway...i just forgot what i was gonna add omg...the name threw me ohhhhhhh ok...when you go to give veggies...some dont really know what the heck your throwing at em now...just clip at first to the OUTSIDE of the cage and let poopy...sigh...investigate you wont see any immediate interest in ANY veggies sometimes it takes MONTHS...just never give up...after attaching for awhile to OUTSIDE the cage then you can carefully and slowing do it inside the cage with different veggies..

also , some like my Cappy dont like anything mushy as in cooked while others ...lucky people... dont mind at all and actually prefer it..so it will be quite the journey at first...and good luck

most of the links you need are on page 1 of that thread

oh geeeeeesh leave it to me to forget something...i just posted that small book above for you and forgot to say the other great thing about those perches davi is ...the longer the better as you will be getting a new cage as those starter kits come with a small cage ..but do get something for now till you get a bigger cage is....the little white plastic caps on the end remove or twist easily to fit the bars and once in six months just put was the top of the perch on the bottom and vice versa and your good to go for another six months using the same perches...

gawd i hope i havent been overwhelming you...but these are all good start suggestions...and i know somewhere near you ...lucky youuuu...there is a avian vet...and im soooo jealous lol

HAHA! nope not overwhelming I have my trusty notebook by my side LOL I should have been clearer about the starter kit I bougt...it was just food, walnut shavings, hanging toy w/bell te bag of food hanging millet and 15 bucks of Kaytee coupons LOL Guess they want you coming back. We realized before of size needs(especially if we sould buy a second) and purchased a cage seperately 28"h x 24" w x 18" d. OH we did get a cuddle bone as well, I wish I knew about te mineral block yesterday, but tomorrow is another day! I'll get it with the new perches.
Thank you so much neighbor!!

ok first of all giggle its not cuddle bone its cuttle bone neighbor lol...omg i hate to say this too but ya dont want to feed that millet...its not good either as most is very dusty and old stuff and can cause impacted crop or hulls can get trapped into nares of the bird irrating it and then if they cant sneeze it out or pick it out it means a vet visit as a bacterial infection can happen if left too long

he is definetly a youngster tho cuz as kk suns likes to mention they have to grow into their big feet lol..and they have more of a tendency at baby age to squat as opposed to sitting up nice and straight and tall ..they also get tired easier...do you have a cover for the cage at nite???? and remember to leave a small table lamp on as this prevents for the most whats known as nite frights where they can often injure themselves.
