Gotta get some more toys today! My wonderful bird Skittles who passed away from cancer two years ago, he loved me and always sat with me while I watched tv the moment I came in the house. He was obssessed with my fingernails which are tips and painted bright colors. Always tapped them and sometimes would hump my hand. Most of the time I would shake him off some times just said oh well.

just finished watching Cappy enjoying a very cheap toy he loves and i have them clipped to the bars of his cage almost everywhere...so cheap THEY ARE FREE

i take and save the small plastic clips you find on the ends of bread bags or certain bakery bag items...they come in different colors and two sizes and so simple to just clip over bars he loves sliding them and banging them...

I am so happy Illusive started this thread, my Denny doesn't play with his toys. He has a swing, rings with a bell on the bottom, a little mirror toy and a kabob chew toy. The only thing he likes is the kabob chew toy. Once in a great while he will pull on the mirror toy. He just doesn't know how to play. I just changed out the ring toy, which he never touch with one that has wooden beads, little branches and other wooden items on it, thinking that since he likes to chew he would like this toy, but so far nothing. I don't get it. I have switched out toys a few times and nothing. Any suggestions?

yes as mentioned show him how to play with his toys everyday...for several minutes....bang them ring them shake them whatever...and place them right onto the sides of the cage at the ends of his perches and above his food cups....not hanging in mid air...

also try those little plastic end ties ...not the wire ones .....the square whole plastic pinch ones to bread bags that i mentioned above

That is such a great idea with the bread things! When I ( used to) feed millet I would clip it to the cage with a small hair clip and CeeCee would play with the clip! I bought nice new toys two for each parakeet today they were scared to death. CeeCee wouldn't even go back in her cage so I took one down and left one for each in their separate cages for now.

its also important when buying toys to buy keet size toys...till the bird becomes very familar to what toys are about then a bit larger size can be bought if the toy looks interesting ...

always important before placing a toy inside a cage to play with it first a few times OUTSIDE so the bird gets to see its not going to eat them..after two days of this then place the toy into the cage and again play with it a few times each day for a few days

even with that the bird may still be a bit suspicious but dont give up on the toy or the bird...ive also after a month if cappy isnt showing interest moved the toy to a different area of the cage that sometimes also helps but GIVE IT TIME doing these things

also like i keep saying place a toy right against the bars ...not hanging and dangling

Yes, always a good idea to let them check out the new toys OUTSIDE the cage before letting the "monster" invade their home.lol

Also if after a while they still don't like the new toy you might try adding a bell or tassels or something you KNOW they like to it to get them interested. Bells n tassels pretty much always works for my guys...it's what THEY like.

Well these are good tips. I always buy parakeet sized toys and it's a new idea to play with them outside the cage. But I saw CeeCee playing with her new toy today she likes it. Serenade still doesn 't know I put a small toy in there and twirled it for him but he's still not hand trained yet I have to move very slow.
