Oh my gosh I didn't realize you have to give her injections!
What are the injections for?

Was she a veggie eater before this happened? Or is veggies in her diet new to her too

LOL @ totally forgot to wash those curtains. haha The things that pop in to our heads at the strangest times.

She had her last shot this morning--a very tiny amount of pain killer. She'll continue getting oral pain medication, which I'm much more comfortable giving her.

We tested her out with a variety of vegetables years ago, but she always preferred the leafy greens. She likes lettuces more than cabbages. It's a completely joyful sensory experience for her to have a bowl of lettuce--she nibbles on the leaves, drinks the water droplets, and jumps in for a bath.

awww poor baby. I'm glad the shots are over with.I can't imagine how stressful that must have been for her AND you.
I had to give subcutaneous fluids to my rabbit before and I hated every minute of it.

It's probably a good thing she is not as keen about cabbage. I'm not even sure if they SHOULD eat cabbage. While researching dif vegs for keets I have always found conflicting info on cabbage. Therefore..I just choose not to feed it because there are so many more veggies that are known for sure to be ok.

My 2 boys won't get in a bath without their beloved lettuce leaf in it. LOL They also love to take baths on wet greens. If feeding lettuce romaine or green leaf is best. The iceberg variety has little to no nutritional vale and seems to cause runny poo.

I can't seem to get little Spud off my mind. Things pop in to my head like..since her mouth is literally open all the time-does it make her dry and thirsty? If so she undoubtedly would drink ore water which may lead to runny poops?
Same with if eating cooked/mushy vegs more than normal..runny poops?

I also thought about vitamin supplements. Did the vet suggest giving her vitamins? Did s/he recommend a certain supplement?
I think that Nekton S is a good one if you are interested in getting a vitamin supplement http://nekton.de/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/nekton-brochure-birds-englisch.pdf
It's well rounded and covers just about everything. My birds seem to like the flavor so that is a def plus.

errrrrrm sorry but cabbage should be completely off her diet ...check out acceptable veggies for birds and you will see it says not to feed cabbage or onions....for a couple....and lettuce has absolutely nooooo nutritional value however, little known fact ...it does have a mild pain killing affect.

this is only one such report on cabbage

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070812093356AAOa6SS

altho in defense of cabbage and some ...supposedly ****cooked cabbage is ok...but for me i stay away from anything in the cabbage family such as even brussel sprouts which i personally love...

cabbage isnt on this list but it give a wide variety of safe do's n donts...

http://www.parrot-and-conure-world.com/non-toxic-for-birds.html

im really please as mentioned before you are so informative about this situation and for sure thats a severe amt. of beak loss but im sure in time she will be fine she has a determination thats so incredable and thats half the battle for sure

be looking forward to more updates and, pictures would be a great school of learning from the worst to when she progresses and gets better

smile

Agreed..stay away from cabbage.
But you as far as the yahoo answers link, you really can't trust those. Heck if ya read some of those answers some are saying crackers n chips are ok and one said try for iceberg lettuce. crazy

Everything I've read too says to stay away from any veggies in the cabbage family.

kk, where do you buy the Nekton S? I still haven't bought a vitamin but probably should.

Brian glad the injections are over, just gives me the shivers thinking about that.
