Zazu has been rehomed. (well, almost)

My mother-in-law, Marie's co-worker, Donna, decided that she really wanted Zazu. With Yoshi being a female who has become way too aggressive since Zazu was brought into my home, I decided it was in the best interest of both birds to rehome Zazu.

Donna brought a new cage to work with her and sent it with Marie. About an hour ago, I placed Zazu in it along with food and water and let Marie take him home with her so she could take him to Donna tomorrow.

Since this was the last day that Yoshi would probably ever see her friend, I let them hang outside their cage for about 3 hours. I said my goodbyes and at that point, I realized that I did get attached to little Zazu. I told him that I would miss him and that I hope he likes where he is going. I even teared up a little. Mostly, I felt bad for Yoshi losing her friend. Since he left, she called out to him twice and when she didn't receive an answer, she quit calling out. She is now sitting on a perch inside her cage looking pretty sad.

I know this is probably the best for both of them. I just hope I don't wake up one morning regretting it. Hopefully, me and Yoshi will have that velcro relationship once again.

As far as letting other members on other forums know about it....it's my business and I am keeping it to myself. I don't need to hear anyone's ridicule of me for something they know nothing about.

ya did good for the birds ...and that is what we are suppose to be about after all...and zaz is gonna have it hard...maybe you should not have let him have that last goodbye they are not like folks ...dont read sadness into yoshi either...heck she had the best going for her with you and now she does again and i also believe she already senses this..oh im sure she is gonna pine a bit that her FEATHERY friend is gone but not to long cuz i have it on good notification ...she REALLY likes her featherless friend too...she says ...ugly as heck with no feathers butttt...she is a keeper LMBO

I talked to Donna for about an hour today letting her know what to expect the first week or so. How Zazu probably won't chirp much at all, how he may not eat for the first day, how he'll probably be sitting around doing nothing for a bit.

I told her sickness signs she should watch for if that ever happens. I explained to her about veggies and natural seed mixes, and how she should provide out of cage time for him as well. I told her that she should talk to him frequently. How he likes baths. (once a week) I told her he can bite too. LOL

And a whole bunch of other stuff....I just wanted her to be as informed as much as possible and told her that she could call me anytime she had questions or concerns.

I think you did the right thing by doing what is best for Zazu. It must be tough but I applaud you for it! It's amazing how you can get so attached to these little guys!

thats a GOOD mommy and she will be a good foster mommy too...you will think of maybe a dozen more things to tell her but its ok...its a way to help let go.

((hugz))) Kim You did the right thing for BOTH of them The right thing..more often than not is not the EASY thing..but you did it for THEM.
They'll both be fine! Remember how happy Yoshi was with just YOU before?? She will be that way again. And Zaz?? He'll be fine too. He'll bond with his new human and have that special one on one relationship with her.
Ya did good girl!! Cheer up and think of how nice it will be for you n Yosh again.. And KNOW you are giving Zaz a chance to have that same special someone and relationship too

kk said what I was thinking, you did what was best for both of them. Now Yoshi has you again to herself and you know how much she loves you. Zazu now has the chance to have that same special bond with his new person. As much as I think we'd like to think they would miss us, I think our little bird friends adapt very quickly to new environments and that quickly becomes *their* normal.

your quite right pepper .. they dont pine for us the same as we do for them and they do adapt quickly when someone fills the void given time with it all as it is after all a change to their routines.

but yep kim you really did do the right thing...and you did it quickly too using logic not your heart first...thats not the usual route with folks in here ...they delay with excuses but you ...you acted with respect for the bird....well done.

I completely support your decision Kim. You acted like a responsible bird owner and you did not do this impulsively.

You gave it much thought and found a proper home and was not in desperate mode and making poor choices.

You know maybe Zaz will be happier too. He just might love his new home and being someone's special and only bird!! Spoiled maybe! lol

Update on Zazu! (Yes, already)

Marie took him to work with her and he is sitting in Donna's office with her and I'm happy to report he is already eating, drinking, and even tinkering with his toys. She was so happy about him...she said that he was so beautiful and she has been talking to him periodically.

Update on Yoshi! She has flown to me several different times just in the short hour since I've been home. She's ate out of my hand without no attempts being made to bite me. She is currently sitting on top of my head. Crazy!
