Our first baby was born this afternoon!

It really is quite miraculous how fast they go from bald little packing peanuts to fluffy little cuties that look like birds. lol
They grow and change soooo fast.

What could be going on? Saturday Baby Boo was born. At least 4 eggs looked fertile but no more have hatched. Shouldn't they be hatching every 2 days like they were laid? Baby Boo seems to be doing okay. He's chirping so they must be taking good care of him but what is happening that the others aren't hatching? My great grandson and I named him Baby Boo because the first egg was laid the day before Halloween.

yes they are laid every other day and so hatch that way IF fertile ...

if not fertile of course they will not hatch...

if this is a new pair it could be they are inexperienced and thats not so bad less to worry about now...so in one sense count your blessings ...

one did hatch anyway ...how many eggs were laid...??? and lets hope she doesnt go into laying any more as this baby starts to grow...

also if your doing too much peeking you could be disturbing her too much being a new mom...

6 eggs were laid. When I candled them 4 looked fertile and 2 didn't. Tizzy sits on them most of the time and so does Roger. She doesn't let you look hardly ever cause she is in the nestbox most of the time. Roger has been feeding her when she doesn't come out. They are first time parents but I know 4 in total looked fertile. I am thankful to have Baby Boo. He is so precious and to hear his little chirps is wonderful.

well even candling should not be done really as that can disturb things...if they are fertile you find out soon enuf as any moving of eggs that is done and not by parents can mess things up inside the egg as parents will rotate them to keep them viable so to speak and if you then move it throws that out of whack...

always best to stay out of box and not handle the eggs...parents rotate eggs to prevent the embryo from sticking inside the egg ...if you disturb that it could lead to no hatches...

When I candled them I didn't pick them up. I took a little flashlight and held it down close to the egg. I could see that way and 4 were fertile and 2 not.

well you have to pick them up to candle proper lol...it could be a bunch of things more than likely like i said they were not fertile...

at what point even did you attempt to candle...how long after they were laid ???

its water under the bridge as the saying goes now and keep your fingers crossed she doesnt try to lay more...it wont be good for her...
