in the 2011 summer holidays i bought a beautiful bird from a pet shop and i called my budgie Charlie.
this isn't him but looks exactly like him!!!

the shop we got him from said all the budgies were baby's but when we spoke to a breeder he said Charlie was over a year old because of the white rings around his pupil.
he didn't take to humans even 3 months in and only lightened up when he heard bird song.
we came to the conclusion he had been raised in an aviary so we gave him to the RSPCA because they only sell to aviary's.

soon I am getting a new budgie from a breeder and I was wondering what noises can budgies easily make, because I want a name that my new bird can easily say and teach him words that he can easily say, so if anyone knows what budgies can or cannot easily say please tell moi laugh

hi and welcome to forum

well now, once they get started there isnt hardly anything they wont say ...but in the beginning they pick up on words that begin with the letters P and B the easiest...like pretty boy...

two word phrases said very clear and slowwwww over n over an it could take a month or more...males being more talkative....so dont give up...i made a tape recording of my own voice in the beginning on a continous loop only because i got sick of saying words twice a day for twenty minutes every day....i would talk train first thing in the morning and then again just before his bed time....also when you speech train its very important that its when there is NO distractions of any sort from others or things going on ...and have the tv off or radio off also...also best if one person does this...

the clearer you speak and speaking slow is a huge key along with patience of course... smile

you can find out a lot from googling about english budgies becuz of all that feathering they as mentioned need a different standard on diet mainly more protein to it than a reg. budgie to help during moults and just simply to maintain that FLUFF...the general thought is the more the fluff the shorter the life...it simply takes too much from their system...

you can also see some pretty fluffy ones out there and those are mature english budgies...did you happen to see any of the breeders other birds or the parents...???

the f letter isnt one very familar for budgies smile

best to start teaching with the simpler words that start with P..B... smile
