Well, speaking from the horse's mouth, so to speak...
I was down in Cancun for vacation, which is on the Yucatan peninsula in mexico, which was the heart of the Mayan civilization. Many people are of Mayan descent there, and parts of the language are still evident.
So I asked someone at the hotel if he thought there was any truth to the "end of the world" issue based on the Mayan calendar and he told me the truth behind it.
The world can't end in December 2012 because the hotel has reservations past then.
Enough said. End of discussion. Although, he said it in Spanish, and my Spanish is a little rusty, so he could have said, "The light bulbs are made of swiss cheese" instead.
