I wish it was just me, Pheonix hasn't touched his seed in two days...nor has he touched the vegie mash that he usually hoovers down, and he won't come out of his cage, just sits on a perch in the corner. - Very very out of character for his usual happy chappy self. Marley however is completely normal, barely notices he's not around lol.

Will keep them seperate....Just worry about Pheonix that's all.

Marley, can Phoenix hear Marley? I was just reading (catch that Illusive) that when you separate budgies but they can still hear each other or see each other, they *may* get very depressed, stop eating and get sick. It was emphasized that they must not be able to see or hear there own kind if this happens. Obviously it isn't bothering Marley at all, but I would make sure that Phoenix is far enough away so he doesn't hear Marley and see if that helps his attitude.

sometimes it just takes awhile too and she just basically separated and if there are poops he is eating...a substitute mate omg im gonna say it ...in the way of a sighh mirror ..ok i said it ...biting tongue ...may also help but id give it a bit of time like i said if you see poops he is eating...and just spend a lil more play time with HIM instead of the others right now...

phoenix is very attached as that lil guy when he was a blink in a fluff pile was the bird that helped marley get thru her hump when hand feeding became a issue so im sure they bonded ...and he more than she obviously lol...

You know they may be able to hear eachother, I think no matter where in the house I keep them that is going to happen, they are both pretty loud . Unless I lock Marley in the walk in Robe LOL. Which I'm sure wouldn't go down well with her. That may be it, although not sure what I can about that, other than putting one down in the corner of our back yard, but that's not an option with all the stray cats around, one is bound to try to get to him through the cage.

Pheonix took some mash off my finger last night, his poops are few and far between, but I did see a couple this morning. Still not interested in seed, but he seems to be chattering to me a bit more so hopefully he's adjusting. I am sooking him up big time Illusive LOL, and he spends most of his time with me for now. He loves when I feed the baby Sunnies and likes to get involved fussing over them while they are waiting for their feed. Although I'm not sure if I should discourage this or let him be....

lol man o man ...gigggle you give me so many laughs and giggles...for now i say its ok ONCE IN A WHILE for him to oversee their feeding but you dont want to keep going thru this ...rotf....so dont make it a habit all the time ..but i think he is going to be fine ...he just needs to feel a part of whats going on and i think he recognizes his role in being sorta a errrrr wet nurse i guess to these youngsters...lol...

however i say dont let it become a habit cause those youngsters will one day have him for lunch when he least expects it ...

this forum with all you guys birds is fast becoming a non ending saga lol...tons of laughs and giggles tho...hope tho it just stays that way.

lol yes there is never a boring moment in this household alone! I was thinking the same thing, he will be very close to the babies if he's with them, but as you said - once they are older they will have him for lunch if they choose to.

At least for now it's helping him out of his little lonely shell lol.

oh yeah and there would be less poops in the cage as now there is only one bird in the cage and yep it will be all this time they will size him up waiting for when they can have him for lunch lol...so as i said i wouldnt do that too often letting him sit in on their feeding time...

It's really funny Marley, when you first joined the forum, I thought you were brand new to birds and suddenly had to hand feed a baby. But obviously you've been around birds a while.

Just how many birds do you have? You've mentioned several different species in your posts and now the hand raising of these new ones.

Lol pepper, no I have handraised before...just nothing as small and delicate and fragile as a Keet. I have to say though getting Marley at the age she was didn't help, as she was use to her parents feeding her so it took a bit to get her use to me. Keets are a whole new ball game when it comes to HR lol so I felt like I was in very foreign waters. I currently have 6 But I'm HR'ing one of my Sunnies for a local breeder who will sell him/her when ready so I'm only keeping one of them. Sunnies are my favourite of the birds and I'm hoping to get my own pair ready for next season so I can breed my own. I also would love to breed and raise Alexandrines, they are some of the funniest and entertaining birds to own. I love Handraising the bigger parrots, the bond and love they share is such a reward.
