We had a very horrible accident last night and my little Dickie is now flying in heaven. I was in the bedroom and my poor husband brought Dickie in to say goodnight not realizing that the ceiling fan was on. Dickie got away from him and flew right into the fan. We are both heartsick because we NEVER have the fans on when the boys are in the room.

RIP Dickie. You were the joy of our lives.

Hi lady its been awhile since ive seen you but often think about you and you know that...

im rather sorry to hear of what happened its never ever easy for sure...an we all forget sometimes to take the precautions and thats normal...we are not perfect beings...even when we make it a habit to do what we should we can still forget sometimes.

remember, we are not perfect always and the occasional forgetful moment is something scheduled into our being

once again im truly sorry for your loss...and the empty feeling you have...things will get better in time. frown

I'm so sorry to hear that, that must have been heartwrenching for you. I can't even imagine what that must have been like.

Our hearts go out to you, and hopefully other keets' lives can be saved with this posting.

keets lives can be saved with this posting????

this is spoke of often in here about the ceiling fans but as mentioned we shouldnt be made to feel any guilt anytime we become human and sometimes forget to close that door because the bird is out or shut off the fan or the stove is on along with many other things ...we try the best im sure but things do happen and thats why they are called accidents...

lady just think of it this way...you always gave the very best you could you and your hubby with a nice home and love and warmth and proper things...some budgies dont even get to come into a nice home environment period never mind the rest ...so dickie had a very good time and lived comfortably while he was with you which is more than some birds. smile

Illusive -

Over the past decade years many of our posts have saved keets' lives. Keet owners react viscerally to hearing about other keets' deaths - whether it is from teflon pans, ceiling fans, cleaning solutions, or other issues.

It has always given some solace to keet owners to then hear those life-saving stories, how what they went through was then able to help other keets thrive as a result.

I know you only joining us in 2009, so you may have missed many of those stories.

This is a key reason we exist. We share our stories to help others learn and grow.

I want to thank you for your kind thoughts. Both my husband and I are doing much better today, although we still have our moments.

I believe all the posts on this forum are meant to help each other out, no matter how sad the circumstances. I know this was an accident and if it reminds someone else to remember to turn off their fans, I will be happy. I know that we have learned our lesson.

My thoughts now go to our remaining bird, Denny. We are spending a lot of time with him and he seems to be doing okay so far. He is going through a molting right now and is very absorbed with grooming.

We are thinking of getting another bird, but won't rush into it.

Again thank you. This forum is really great.

RIP Dickie
