Hello all smile
I am very excited to have added my first parakeet to my family. I had wanted one from childhood to when I started working for a petshop, when I fell out of love with them because I was so often bitten. For a full four years I have thought they were cute, but not the bird for me as they bit more frequently than my macaw and Amazons. Then I met Percy- a perky little clown who really stood out from his(I believe) flock. He jumped on my hand every time I entered their cage. He whistled and chirped when I walked by. He let me scratch his back and stroke his chest. I was heartbroken when I went in to my work to find him gone. However, I went home to find him on my living room table, and have already spent a lot of money on a big cage, toys, and other supplies. He has been home for two days and is already whistling to me, stepping up and playing with toys, tissues and whatever I give him. I'm already in love with him.

awwwwwwwwwwww hi and welcome...sounds like a perfect match...what a lovely surprise...keets really arent bitters unless you do something to deserve it as they generally HATE being grabbed and held at all unless they have been hand fed...

soooo who was thoughtful enough to know about percy and bring him home??? i suspect there is more to this story giggle so how about sharing it...

is he still a baby with the stripes on his head all the way to his beak??? what color is he...

glad you have a BIG CAGE we all usually make a mistake of getting a cage waaaaaaay too small then need to get a big one...because we find out toys...extra food cups....swing...ladders cuttle bone ...mineral block so on and so forth really add to diminishing the size of the cage when you put all their stuff in one...

just be sure what you give him is safe...some toys can be quite dangerous...like some of the bell toys and toys with chains ...if you want him to really stay bonded to you ..dont have a mirror toy in the cage...

you may want to save this link to your fav's for referencing as it has a full list of safe and non safe things...

also if you go to the top of the page where you are new...see the forum list tab...if you click on it and then go to general keet chat link and or the health and medical link ...you will find SOOOOOOOOO much to read about to answer just about any questions you may have...just read a little day by day save your fav's to reference again and your golden lol

ok now here is the link for safe and non safe things

Although he's my first keet, I know a lot about them from research I did for my work and prior to him coming home. I'm also an experienced bird(macaw, Amazon and cockatiel) owner, so I know about how important safe toys & his home are. Thank you for your suggestions though:)
My parents were the ones who got him for me. I had mentioned him to them several times since I had met him. The bars on his head have receded, so I'm guessing he's around 6 or so months old. He is a green rare keet, I think he is what would be called a dominant pied, although I am a little rough on the mutations.

I'm aware of that site (and that green is the wild coloration) it was how I found this forum. I was not saying that green is rare- rather that he looks green to the eye. On some sites/ books/stores, pieds, lutinos etc are referred to as "rare". Sorry that I didn't express that well.

That is my little guy. Not the best picture, he's a bit washed out in it.

What an unusual color. It is great to have a keet with a personality like that.
