Hi Everyone,

I would like to introduce you to Timmy. He came to us on Feb 6th. My husband surprised me with him when I got home from work that day, after loosing our little Dickie 4 days earlier.

He seems to be a very happy bird, and is very vocal. We have been playing the Happy Budgie CD for him and he gets all excited hearing the "other" birds in the room.

Our other bird, Denny, knows Timmy is in the house. We have them separated for health and training purposes at opposite sides of the house, but Timmy is SO vocal, that Denny is responding. Denny flew out of his cage and right into the office where Timmy is this weekend. So now when we let Denny fly around the house, we close the doors to the office.

Timmy's training is going very well for only 1 week. I am working slowly with putting my hand in the cage. He will eat a small sprig of millet that I hold in front of him. I tried using a perch yesterday and he stepped up when I touched his breast near his feet with no problems. We will keep doing this until I can work my finger under him.

So here are a couple of pics. He is very young, but his cere is definitely light blue all over, but time will tell.

hey he/she is sitting up so straight for a baby and not one bit camera shy i see ...giggle...usually babies are more to squat then sit up nice an straight and show off...lol...nice going on the training good idea to keep they in quarantine and not near each other just remember wash hands good when going from one to the other too..

they will chatter back and forth im sure for a long time to come its what they do after all...and your right way to early to tell if a boy or girl...especially with that color species...you will have to wait several more months...

glad his winds are not clipped too...niceeee.

have a very happy family and enjoy... laugh

I have been debating whether or not to clip his wings at least while we are training, then let them grow out when he goes though a molt. All my other birds were clipped. We let Dickie and Denny's wings grow out, and we love to see them do what comes naturally. I was going to wait another week before I made my decision, but I don't want to undo any of the training and trust we've built up so far. My leanings right now are to leave him alone.

well i hope you stick with that decision...unclipped birds dont learn from a desire but from a sulking type of mood they HAVE to...

and their natural defense is gone should they need to fly also clipped wings could mean internal injuries should the bird try from a height...

all things to think about...and i know for myself, id want a bird to do things i want because it enjoys it not because it has no choice...

never have i had a bird with clipped wings and they all trained up lovely ... wink sounds like this lil guy you have now is coming along fine...

laugh

Really pretty bird. I had one that looked quite a bit like that when I was about 20. Long time ago. He/she...I never knew...got very tame so when I had my son he loved to hang from his bangs and pick at the eye boogers on my son's eyes! Yuck. It was cute though.
Good luck on the training!

keets should never pick in peoples eyes or mouths or noses etc...no birds should... laugh please do not let your birds do this anyone...other pet saliva is just as dangerous too and besides the obvious reasons you shouldnt let your lil guys near larger more predator type animals this is another reason to be very cautious... smile
