Hi! my parakeet Julia has been vomiting for almost 2 months now,she was dx with megabacteria,we've been going to the avian vet almost every week. When i brought her to the vet the first time, stool exam was done and found "megabacteria " that time she already lost 10 grams of her weight, she was admitted for 3 days and was given claforan injection, vit.B injection and amphoteracin-b orally. She was discharged with doxycycline antibiotic to be put in drinking water x 2 weeks, she continue to vomit so i took her back and was put on nystatin to be given orally, again did not work, still continue to vomit, brought her back again and was given amphoteracin-b x 10 days and dmg,she seems to be recovering for few days, still vomiting but not as much so her vet instructed me to continue the ampho-b for another 10 days then she started vomiting a lot again, brought her back again and this time her vet told me that it could be secondary bacterial infection,so he added cefa drops with nystatin in conjunction with amphoteracin-b and dmg, she's still vomiting, lose body weight with the breast muscle waisting away, black droopings.I dont know what else to do,she's been suffering for a long time.I dont want to give up on her coz i know she's fighting. Is there anything else i can do for her ? please dont tell me to put her to sleep, coz i've always believe in miracle..thank you!!!

i believe in miracles too but this is one tough disease to combat...did they rule out candida disease too??? Anyway these are suggestions to you...

I recommended as I always do in any circumstances I suspect some sort of bacteria upset, to buy some acidophilus in capsules AND NOT WITH ALL SORTS OF ADDITIVES TO IT.
Just the regular capsules. Then to sprinkle a small pinch or two of the powder into the birds food every day for a week to ten days. Now the second thing I mentioned doing is...buy some baby food for infants in particular sweet potato and check different brands to make sure again it's as pure as possible or puree' your own. From there you only SLIGHTLY, and so the food is not swimming in baby food, at first only give a very light coating of the seeds with the baby food. As the bird begins to respond to this and begins to eat more. Then add a BIT more (still not swimming seeds please), of the baby or puree'd sweat potatoes. Or puree some STEAMED beets as well WITH SKIN REMOVED. Also, I suggested the diluted cilantro and anise tea. Cilantro and thyme teas are also good for other things.

(Also anti-inflammatory benefits. Shown to have antibacterial and antifungal properties is sweet potato .)(broccoli may even need to be considered here Broccoli contains an enzyme protector, sulforaphane, that supports the health of the intestinal tract of birds)

next is ALOE DETOX...also Remember also***thyme fights fungal diseases (thyme***tea ALONG WITH anise, also fights fungal issues, and bacteria.... You should start the therapy with just a small quantity and a light WEAK BREWED thyme tea...AND DO NOT offer any other form of food or drink which has a liquid to it such as leafy green veggies etc..or any other form of water. This should be the only access to liquid so the bird drinks it and use again pure bottled spring water.

http://www.vitacost.com/Lily-of-the-Desert-Aloe-Vera-80-Detoxifying-Formula

DOSAGE FOR ABOVE ON ALOE DETOX...a cap full for every 30 ounces of water. IT IS NOT CHEAP BUT NEITHER IS A VET BILL AND THIS IS CHEAPER AND CAN SAVE A LIFE. IF POSSIBLE PUT A RUSH SHIP ORDER ON THAT ALOE DETOX. EVERYONE should always have some of this ON HAND ...i keep some around just in case...

IF, you have access to some alfalfa (that has not been treated in anyway) I would say a very small amount into their seed cups once in awhile

use only pure bottled spring water or even get some pedialite...

make sure believe it or not... there is no rotting veggitation outside near your house or dead and decaying animal... as bacteria from that is very likely to enter a home as its airborne spores...so remove decaying leaves etc from all around the house...compost piles anything like that.

THESE ARE SUGGESTIONS AND I AM NOT A VET BUT THESE HAVE SOMETIMES HELPED IF STARTED EARLY...you have the choice of course to make and oh yah noooooooo egg or dairy types of food right now either. These things have always been suggested by me and have helped others IF started early enough so im not sure how your bird will respond as its been going thru a LOT for awhile now...its all worth a try tho...remember believe in miracles and the sooner you get all this the better...its system has been being compromised with natural abilities to fight also by all the antibiotics its been being given.

what do you feed right now...??? for seeds etc...that brocolli and sweet potatoe and the tea etc etc along with aloe detox can be very beneficial...all can be...starting the sooner the better...and be sure its pure bottle spring water as well not from your tap...

keep us informed...be sure everything around that cage is disefencted good and there is no chance of any kind of mold spores if possible...if the bird is in a room where there is carpeting just in case...id move it to a room with no carpets as well.

will have you in my prayers and good luck from the bottom of my heart... smile AND welcome to the forum just wish it wasnt for something so serious as what your going thru at the moment and please keep us informed often...one last thing ...i can not emphasis this enough but seek out a AVIAN VET they have the most experience in disease as DVM's only have a bit of training in this stuff...they are more expensive usually than a DVM and i know your vet bill is getting outrageous at this point but as i said they AVIAN VETS are more sophisticated with their knowledge on disease.

EDITED...READ THIS ALSO AND CONSIDER GETTING SOME ORGANIC MILK THISTLE...i am only recently becomming familar with this and it also sounds like it could be very effective...for your consideration and i know it does not sound like its dealing with what your bird is going thru but i make sure its in my birds diet...something else to consider and this is all a lot i know but get some of this and make sure its always available in a food cup...is the herbal salad...as the herbs involved are allll of a medicinal nature...and birds will gravitate to what they need from it instinctively.

http://www.twinbeaksaviary.com/order.html

http://www.forumpakistan.com/nutritional...l#ixzz1gwgyMtqL

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Organic-MILK-THI...=item3a728b2b25

Those are my suggestions and all i have to offer...as mentioned in the past when recommending all this to others birds with other diseases ie: heavy metal poisoning and AGY AND CANDIDA not this one in particular but, have either recovered or at least are still living and doing much better but that was for EARLY intervention treatment as well...so lets pray for the best with all of this. laugh

your most welcome and ill check back here OFTEN to see if you have posted anything new...

but you didnt answer some of my questions please review the above and given a chance please answer what you have been feeding and did they rule out candida and or AGY??? Megabacteria disease often can spawn from either or of these its different in some ways and yet often at times similar...in some ways...also always make sure your seed etc is fresh if its old toss and get some fresh it should be shiny and not musty smelling or dull...but

boy oh boy you got a heck of a battle on your hands and i commend all you have done so far...this megabacteria is serious stuff...but dont lose hope and do try ALL the above...starting as soon as you can with the tea as you probably have some of those on hand in your spice rack...and the acidophilus can be bought over the counter at any good vitamin stocked store including walmart...same with pure spring bottled water...and the small jars of baby sweet potato...even beet leaves give when you purchase some beets then PEEL AND STEAM AND PUREE...these you can all start immediately till you get the other things mentioned...you can do the same with the beet puree as the baby food sweet potatoe but in different food cups ...just offer the beet leaves after rinsing thoroughly with ACV ..apple cider vinegar then RINSE WITH THE PURE SPRING BOTTLE WATER...DO NOT USE YOUR TAP WATER NOW.

check at your local grocery store to see if they carry bobsredmill grains and pick up some FLAX SEED and STEEL CUT OATS..both help to fatten up a bird...and flax seed is very good food also some barley of the same brand of bobsredmill...it has 92 vitamins and many minerals...

always feed ORGANIC..and make sure what your buying from bobsredmill also says ORGANIC.

please please stay in touch as all you post here will also help others to get informed of what they could also face at some point in their birds lives...all information is welcomed.

Hi Cathy,
Welcome to the forum.
Not much to add to what illusive has already suggested, she is very thorough.
I do however want to commend you for going the extra mile for little Julia. You are obviously trying everything humanly possible to help her get better. Kudos to you smile
illusive is right, that is one terrible disease to fight, but I too believe in miracles so you hang in there.
Try your best to answer all of illusive's questions as every little bit of info helps. The only way for her to know the whole story behind Julia's illness is to ask questions. She has worked a few little miracles herself right here. I can honestly say that I would trust her with my birds over just about any vet, avian or otherwise, out there.

You might want to check your nearest health food/vitamin store, maybe even give them a call, to see if they have that Aloe Detox in stock. Many times they do. If so, it will save time not having to order it online.
The sooner you can start these things the better

Wishing you and Julia the best ans sending prayers & positive vibes your way (((((((((((((()))))))))

Hi illusive fantasy,
The vet did not tell me if it's candida or AGY,he just said " mega bacteria ". I adopted julia 2 years ago and unfortunately she only eats seeds.I tried to switch her to a pelleted diet but she's stubborn. For 2 years i've been adding pellets on her diet, varieties of fruits and vegetable and i only buy organic, but just refused to eat it.I do however chopped broccoli into small pieces and sprinkle it on her seed diet, hoping she gets a little bit, leave it for 2 hours only, then changed it to fresh seeds, i tried clipping veggies and fruits on side of cage but wont even look at it, i only use mineral water as well.. I already started her on thyme tea and so far she's drinking it. I pureed sweet potatoe but wont eat it..the problem is she wont eat anything except seeds..Her vet is an avian vet and the hospital is a bird medical center..right now i think the doctor is treating 3 diseases, coz she's on three antibiotics... Amphoteracin-b for AGY, nystatin for CANDIDA, and cefa drops for bacterial infection..she's also on DMG which is for immune system and powerful anti-oxidant,they even call it " wonder drug " also was given 2 intramuscular injection twice when i took her for follow up,claforan injection and vit b injection,my gosh!! It breaks my heart ...i cry everytime..more than my julia..what should i do coz she wont eat sweet potatoe or beets or flax seeds? And is it ok to give Aloe detox if she's on DMG which is Anti oxidant?
And acidophilus if she's on cefa drops which is antibacterial?i will continue giving sweet potatoe..hoping she'll change her mind...thank you..i really need your advice..God bless you....

ooooook remember only a very small amt of BABY FOOD PUREE SWEET POTATO ON THE SEED barely ANYTHING AT FIRST OF THIS same with the puree beet an give the beet leaf...glad she isnt eating pellets SMART GIRL THAT ONE LOL..if your still trying pellets STOP ya now what ...ill get it from a few about this too but...pellets can harbor mold and not be seen by the very nature of how they are rough cut on the ends it doesnt take much.....and this isnt the time or place to dispute this pellet vs seed stuff ...keets dont eat much for fruit so no worries there...like i said make sure whatever your feeding its very fresh...not old...check the dates ...if they have any...

leave the brocolli whole head florettes longer and make believe eating any of this with her offer her some from your hand then make believe YOUR eating it smacking your lips over and over do this...not sure if what your calling mineral water is the same as pure spring water probably is so ok...

as far as treating three different things thats why this is such a B to treat and why its called MEGABACTERIA gawd this is awful stuff ...

sooooo they are at least treating for AGY AND CANDIDA like i said sigh this stuff often is from those or confused with them...thats another reason why this is sooooooo tuff to treat...and really glad to know they are on their toes and treating for this as well GOOOOD...thats why i asked about that...so they and i are on the same track with all of this it seems...

and dont say she wont eat that stuff you have to keep using it and DO NOT CAVE IN TO HER ...even if THATS ALL you feed is the flax and oat groats and barley and organic thistle and baby food etc..lol...glad you do organic too and get the thistle ...dang artificial colors in commmercial seeds and all the other funky stuff...anyway getting off THAT horse for now...please tell me also your not feeding KAYTEE fortified crap...ive seen wasting in keets that are fed that and ill probably catch heck for saying it but i say it as i see it and ive seen it...and ive pointed it out to a few too ...it shows in pictures of birds on it...annnnnnnnnway.

acidophilus is safe no matter what meds are used ..so get it and sprinkle some on the food a small pinch...another reason i love acidophilus is IT IS SO SAFE...AND YES the aloe detox will be ok...

so glad she is drinking the tea GOOOOD GIRL lol like i said as long as thats the only source of moisture except from beetleaves or whats in the babyfood to coat the seed...and be sure to make it a brew of thyme AND anise...BOTH together ..dandelion and alfalpha BOTH fight candida...thats why i mentioned those as well...well i forgot the dandelion sorry..

and hush kk like ive said i dont like working my brain lol..its suppose to be retired...trying to remember all this for ya...

i know its work and frustrating if or when she doesnt eat some of this...but you have to be persistent and like i said DO NOT CAVE IN keep the sweet potatoe coating to the seed ..very very little...let me see how i can maybe explain..ok take a tablespoon of the seed mix and then put in maybe the equivalent of one good size drop of the baby food for now and stir well so its coating the seed...and remember replenish often.. wink

now ...when mixing the seed with the sweetpotatoe baby food that only leave for a few hours THEN WASH THE CUP WELL AND REDO IT...so you need only give a bit at a time as you will refresh it often...

remember if there is any decaying stuff outside your home get after it and keep windows closed when you do it an move bird to a room with no carpet...im playing all odds here for ya...in the hopes we eliminate more mold spores causing the bacteria...

and thanks for the blessings from GOD ill take all He wants to dish out to me for sure...but you dont have to thank me honest...this is a passion for me to try to help where and when i can and like i said ill be here often to check on how things are going so keep me informed of every detail...

and more than one way to skin a stubborn bird...go here..and dont order more than the four ounce size gawd that will be plenty.

http://www.myspicesage.com/name-az-b-c-1_11.html?page=2&sort=20a

there is your way to get beet into her with the beet powder...lil stinker..but in the meantime just keep trying with STEAM not boiled or baked ..and skin removed then puree..when you get that beet powder ..again just enough to barely see it in the food .. wink

ok ill keep you and that lil girl in my prayers...YOU get REST and STAY IN TOUCH ... laugh

im pulling for ya gal smile

and i hope folks are taking notes on all of this...and for the record ...megabacteria is a disease in and of itself ..but has similarities to AGY and CANDIDA and sometimes is a RESULT of one or both of those being present...so glad to see your AVIAN vets are on the ball about it and they and i are thinking alike.

Hi! illusive fantasy,

My little angel passed away today.I'm so heartbroken...why does it hurts so bad...i' m so sad..i just don't understand why the most inocent creature, with the purest heart has to go through all these..they don't deserve to suffer...i miss her soooo much.....thank you for everything and my little julia wanted to say thank you to you too....please continue giving advice to others, coz nobody has to go through what my little angel went through..and i always say this..I BELIEVE THAT ANIMALS HAVE SOULS! And when i die i wanted to go to the place where their souls went....thank you again from the bottom of my heart..

your julia fought a very hard battle for a long time ...thats the worst thing that disease and usually the outcome is not good but i must say she lasted a long time with a very game heart to try for you...its natural to miss her i miss all my animals i ever had think of them often and know in my heart i will see them all again...sometimes even in my dreams i see some of them...

she is on wings of love now...so dont be heartbroken...

and in time this too will ease as another lil bird will look at you and call to you to have you come and take it home...for a good life with you...

you should take great solace in the fact you did allll you could and so did the vets...many would of done nothing...and julia knows this...so when that next lil special bird looks at you ...it maybe julia in another birds feathers...saying ...here i am ...take me home smile
