I had to put my favorite kitten to sleep this summer. It still bothers me. I still miss William terribly and think about him all the time. It still hurts.

How are you all with your loved babies that have passed away?

every animal ive ever had ...an there has been gobs of them...i still think of with fond memories...

Certain ones can still cause an ache in my heart, even decades later. Others I remember fondly. Maybe it has something to do with whats going on with your life when you have that pet, or maybe they fill a special need for you. Some of the more traditionally talented or beautiful animals haven't been my heartbreakers. Oh great Jilly, now you've got me tearing up for Irish, my first yellow Laborador.

Sorry, Jeanne. It really is strange how not all animals' passing affects us the same way. I guess it's like people - with some there is a strong connection that is amazing, and with others we love them, but with less intensity.

I wonder what it is that makes that difference.

I'm sorry to hear about William, Jilly, but yes, I have had pets, who I simply remember fondly and others, whose deaths still pull strongly at the heartstrings ~ and I know that it is the same with my Mum, because we were only discussing this today

I completely understand!!! My parakeet just died this summer and he was like my baby! Nobody understands why it's so increadibly hard on me, but I can totally relate!

I still have dreams about my Australian cattle dog, mate who died several years ago. In the dreams he shows up at my house or comes to me when called and it seems so real. I had a stronger connection to him than most people.

I honestly wish sometimes I could forget about my baby... he is always on my mind! It hurts every time I look at his grave, because he feels so distant, So I took his leg band and put it on a hemp neclace to always be close to my heart

I used to have a parakeet named Silver 3 or 4 years ago. He didn't die but my dad gave him away one week when I was gone- cage and all. It still upsets me going into Petco and seeing all the keets that looked like him. I love parakeets and neither of my parents allow me to have one even if I will take care of it. It's not that I want to replace him it's just I never got to say goodbye and I want to make it right with one. So no I never forgot about my parakeet silver, I think and miss him all the time.
