My Parakeet laid two eggs 4 days ago but there has'nt been any male with her for about 9 months. She is sitting on the eggs diligently like she thinks she can hatch them. I don't know. Also her poop is greenish and watery. Does anyone know what I should do?

her poops have changes because she is laying eggs this is normal...

what you need to do is now...give her ONLY straight seed no veggies...or treats...drop her daylight time dramatically to 10hrs then cover her up...

remove the eggs and nesting box once she is done laying and leave all as is FOR NOW. letting her brood on the eggs for awhile then

slowly removing one egg every other day once she HAS STOPPED LAYING which they lay a egg every other day...

and dont supply her with anything to stimulate her into this mode again like shreddie toys and anything she can use to call a nest, ALSO MIRRORS ...

she may continue to lay more eggs tho as two eggs is usually low in what they usually lay....which is generally up to six or seven being the norm...once there are no more eggs coming do as explained above IN THE MEANTIME be sure she has enough calcium she is getting...thats a MUST...does she have a cuttle bone...is she using it....and mineral block

if not scrape some of the cuttlebone into her seeds...or buy some powder calcium in capsules or someway to crush it really good and add to her food...which you should begin immediately to reduce to ONLY straight seed as mentioned above ...

she cant hatch eggs they are not fertile...she is sitting because thats natural to her...and her poops will get back to normal once she is done laying eggs

Thank you. I had already removed the nest and eggs before you replied. And I had already put in new toys including things to shread. So I hope that nothing bad happens. But anyway I hope she was done laying. I think she was. I thought she only had 2 eggs but there were 4. What to do with the eggs now?

giggle throw the eggs away...they are not fertile...and REMOVE shreddie toys an any mirror toys

reduce the daylight hours unless you want her to do this again....

how long before i can put the mirrors back in? She is pretty quiet today. SAD

you dont put them back ever ...this is what she is bonding too and thinking she needs to lay eggs and the shreddie stuff or any shreddie toys just gives her the opportunity as well...

if you think thats sad you need to see how dangerous getting egg bound is when a bird dies from it....birs suffers terribly first in the process...not THATS sad. and we have have a good share on this forum of folks who have lost birds from that.

no none of those till she is out of breeding mode not just laying mode...BREEDING mode and you will know that when her cere changes back to normal which will be at least...a good WHOLE month.
