Just thought I'd come back to mention something else that I don't think was mentioned before?
bjkaiser, if you do plan on spending time in a motel don't just leave a note about not touching the birds or cage...but you also need to be aware of cleaning products used. You might be better off just having the cleaning person just leave clean towels n such. And if any air fresheners are in the room get rid of them. wink
Same with in your car if you have any in there..just thought of that crazy

Thank you so much for your helpful tips and suggestions. I'll make sure to heed all the advice posted here. There's so much information!

kksuns, yes I do have a place already. In fact, my transition should actually be pretty simple. I'm more concerned for my precious feathered friends.

But now I feel more prepared, and I still have a few weeks to get everything I'll need for them. I really appreciate all of your concern and points I might have overlooked. So sincerely, thank you. My birds thank you too!! smile

I'll be sure to post once the move is made to let you know how everything went. And if anyone thinks of anything else, just let me know. I'll continue to check on here in case anyone has any more tips. Thanks again!

The one thing I would suggest is frequent rest stops. They may not feel comfortable eating or drinking while the car is moving so stopping for a half hour or so every 4 to 5 hours at a rest stop may be a good idea.

excellent suggestion also cetan

that carrier has a full open top for them to look out of that i suggested not just the slit openings you see...

carriers are made for transport especially longgg trips..
cages are cages...and birds should not be transported in them...thats why they make carriers.

transport carriers are specifically for transportation and these are even airline acceptable for under seat storage if you were of a mind to take a bird onboard.

Everything went smoothly. I was real surprised at how well my birds seemed to adapt to the car ride. It only took about 30 minutes before they were chatting and acting like their usual selves. Night time seemed to stress them out a little more than when it was day light out, but now that they're stationary and set back in their normal cages with their familiar toys, they seem happy again.
Thank you for all of your help. I appreciate it.

Good to hear that everything went so smoothly. What good birdies smile

Now, time for you to get settled in and get everything squared away huh? Hope you enjoy your new home and meet some nice people.

Have you scouted out your nearest avian vet yet? Hope there are more there than there are here!

welcome home...

so where did yu move too...glad all went well and no unforeseen events...thats always a plus...your profile says texas but that maybe your old area i dont know ...getting some rough weather down there lately ive heard...so batten down the hatches lol..IF thats where you are now also.

you say now they are set back into their normal..cages ..so you must of used something else for transporting...which i agree on that using what you normally would of had for their regular cages...

did you bring any of the water from your old area to gradually transitionalize them to the new area of water...you may want to have that water tested for heavy metals or say the heck with it and just buy PURE BOTTLED SPRING WATER...which is generally a better choice as you never know about the water in towns and how its treated or the condition of the house water pipes...

would be nice if it was a private well tho...but still would need to be tested for metals...just wouldnt have to worry about additional chemical treatments...

anywayyyyyyyy...wishing you an yours a very happy relocation... laugh

oh and thanks for getting back to all of us about this...that was really nice of you
