I just got a new parakeet!
She was not tame at the pet store!
But she's still young- I can tell by the bars on her head, I did my research lol
Well I do have other pets and a 1 year old, I thought about getting her friend maybe in a few weeks, I'm taming her now and she's making great progress!
But if I get her a friend, will she become untame again???
Then will she want nothing to do with me and only the new bird??
Thanks!!!

its best to keep ONE bird to lessen ANY issues at all which there are several that can happen ...in particular not knowing sexes...then needing another cage for a 90 day quarantine ...then training and bonding issues ... one bird can be quite happy and entertained by itself with some toys and you...dont complicate what you have going by getting another there is no guarantee they would even like each other either and actually bully to the point of doing physical harm.

if her wings are clipped dont be surprised if at some point her progress reverses at some stage...having wings clipped "forces" them to do the things you want because they have to not because they are trusting you..please let the wings grow back...they are a natural defense for a bird and needed for proper excercise and health.

id save my money for a really great size cage...most often too small a cage is bought in the beginning as so many of us have found out.

welcome to the forum and be sure the bird has a UNFLAVORED mineral block in that cage...as well as a UNFLAVORED cuttlebone.

I agree totally. Stick with just the one and you will have a true blue friend. No telling what would happen if you add another. Like illusive said...they might not even like each other. It's happened to others time and time again.
I lucked out and my 2 get along great. I did wait til I had had my first, Levi, for around 8 mos or so before getting another. By then his bond with me was so strong it never changed.

Keep working with the one you have very very slowly. A solid foundation of trust is key to a tame and well balanced bird friend smile

Oh! Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new baby

^Same with my Chuckie (rest in peace friend). Had him for about a year before I got him a mate. He loved her and his friendliness around humans never got any less after she was introduced. Also, it was easier to tame the new bird because she would see how calm Chuckie was around me. I would try to hand feed her and she'd run away but when she'd see Chuckie eating from my hand she'd do the same. She was even starting to fly to me after seeing Chuckie do so for a long time.
