Hi...I am new to this site. Yesterday, I purchased a new Budgie from PetCo. I put him in a quiet room and pretty much let him be. However, he has not moved a inch from his position from yesterday. No eating, no nothin. How long will he be okay doing this? What can I do to help out the situation? I have 2 cockatiels in another room...should I put him closer to them for company? Help..I don't want anything to happen to him!

Welcome to the forum. Dont put him in the same room as your tiels for at least 30 days - you want to quarantine him just to make sure he is healthy. Give him a day or two to get used to things, just talk to him quietly and maybe have a soft radio so he doesnt think there are predators lurking (in nature it gets quiet when a predator is nearby). If the food dishes are low and he is perched up high try putting another food dish near his perch. Also most petstores do not feed the best diet but I would give him what they were feeding him for the first few days

Welcome Katiebird,
Congrats on your new lil one.
Cetan is so right. Don't put him in the same room as your tiels, quarantine is very important. One never knows if your new one has an unseen illness just yet and you wouldn't want to expose your teils to it.

New budgies are often little birdie statues at first. They're just too scared to move. Give him a few days to get used to his new home, and like Cetan said..talk to him softly and move very slowly around him.
Often times they are eating but you just don't see them. Check his food dish, if there are empty seed hulls he is eating. They do sometimes go a day or so without eating tho and yes it makes you nervous! *sigh
I found that it helps to put some seed mix in a shallow dish or on a plate on the cage floor for new ones because a lot of pet stores feed them on the cage bottom. Also like Cetan mentioned, put a dish up higher, closer to where he is hanging out right now.

They do like to have a nite light on at night so as not to be in complete darkness wink

Does s/he have a name yet??

definetly best to just let the new baby be for about 10days doing only food and water changes and cleaning of cage and moving VERY slowly when approaching or around it...

nothing more than that should be done for that time after all this is a HUGE adjustment for it leaving family then store and other birds to you and your home and dont think you need to get it a friend either this most often causes more issues than not ...one bird is fine...

i suggest also as others said do not put in room with cockies and a 90 day quarantine keeping cockies away from the new guy too if they come out to fly etc.

3o day quarantine is not enough...

be sure you get a UNFLAVORED cuttlebone and mineral block andddd

welcome to the forum
