Thought I should add this to the good stuff. It's called Herb Salad and I think every bird deserves it, maybe even NEEDS it, depending on their diet and how well balanced it is.

Read all about it and you will see why. Be sure to click on the sidebars too.
I know I've posted this link before and talked about it..but some of the newcomers may not have seen it. smile
Most birds LOVE this stuff and with good reason.. they instinctivly know what they need.

Well it's a little off topic but it's about food. Happy Dance....la da dee la duh dah ....Cheeko ATE broccoli. Well, at least I think he did. I had a piece wedged in his cage and when I got home today, it was at the bottom of the cage with a good bit off of it. I think he ate it anyways. I put another in there. Really happy. Thought it would be much longer. smile

welllllll there ya go...well done ...your both on your way...however as i keep mentioning brocolli ...parsley....baby spinach or reg...should not be given daily they are calcium binders.

beet leaves ..see if you can get some to jump into your other produce baggie when you shop...is a very good substitute ..as are carrots an sweet potatoe , also try cauliflower where he liked the brocolli...or bean sprouts like what you find in chinese food...got a lot of other choices too...but do not give those mentioned above daily at all or even a couple times a week...reserve those as more or less infrequent treats.

but doing a happy dance with you also...and growling at same time as it took Cappy 8mos to try ANYTHING.

something else you may want to try is ORZO cooked up till el'dente'..as in like not soggy but tender mix with some cooked carrot for color and toss with a few kitchen spices

Broccoli, spinach and parsley? Only once in a while, right?

Wasn't sure when you said "mentioned above", I wanted to make sure you were referring to just the broccoli, spinach and parsley (being calcium binders). The others you mentioned is okay on a daily basis? I have easy access to cauliflower, carrots, beets so these would be easy to handle. And as for the harder veggies (like baby carrots) do you chop these into little pieces or are the birds capable of eating them as is? Thanks Cappy's Moma! LOL

omg you crack me up...but i love it...

yah just those maybe once a month...and you have to see how your bird prefers its carrots where its still very much a baby i think it would want something a little softer so id cook them with some ORZO and sweet potatoe..and mix it into a extra food cup...i keep forgetting how long kksuns cooks her sweet potatoe for her guys but i know its not long ...peel n cook in micro i believe is what she does...

thats why a lot of times too young birds wont bite into mineral block or cuttlebone cuz their beaks are still somewhat soft and tender till they age up a bit.

My human kids adore couscous cooked with carrots, so of course Jeffie had to try it. Jeffie really enjoys the tiny pieces, so we sometimes make her some without salt. We buy the Bob's Red Mill whole grain type.

I don't think it is a fortified pasta like boxed orzo usually is, so I'm not sure how it compares nutritionally. However, you just drop it in boiling water, take it off the heat, & it cooks as it absorbs the water in about 5 minutes.

Anyone else try couscous?
