Timmy is now 9 months old now and her cere is now a lite bluish white with white around the nostrils. As you may remember she is a recessive pied. Over the past couple of months we have been moving her away from Denny for periods of time during the day into my husband's office in an attempt to ween them from each other. They have always had their own cages. Two weeks ago we made the move permanent. Denny is in the living room and Timmy is in the office where my husband spends most of his day. They can hear each other but not see each other. We are concerned that Timmy is not happy. All she does all day is sit in the middle of the cage. She is very vocal. Screaching a lot. She is eating and drinking. We give her some fly time in the office which is a pretty big room. She flys frantically around the room. We are concerned that she will hurt herself.

Is it necessary to keep them in different rooms? We don't want babies and we don't want her to start laying eggs either. Can they never see each other again? What do others do that have a male and female? Any advice?

i find that too often WE get emotionally attached with OUR feelings to THE BIRDS...have you never seen outside birds when out of sight of each other?? They chirp back and forth...

do you not talk back and forth with your husband when in different rooms...or on the phone...do you not at certain times of the day look for each other...and so do the birds outside...BUT...its NOT A SIGN of stressfulness...nor is it a SIGN of pouting or mopeing when just sitting around birds DO THIS...they are not always on the go.

WE need for THIER sakeS to stop placing OUR emotions on THEIR actions...KEETS DO FINE ALONE...KEETS when they fly it always seems FRANTIC...thats normal also...and just let them BEEEEEEE when they do come out and not run around after them...thats how they learn to navigate and where they like to land and feel comfortable...they dont need rescuing unless they get BEHIND something or very deep UNDER something they DONT want to be forced to go to YOU...in fact if you chase them about thats WHEN they will get hurt.

You have taken the time to DO IT RIGHT now dont go undoing it...which if you let YOUR emotions get in the way you will do ...

if YOU dont want eggs this is BEST...if the move is permanent then the move is permanent ...

it even takes sometimes two weeks when first bringing them home for them to adjust...so just keep things like they are ...its FOR THE BEST and they DONT GET LONELY for each other. Remember even in the wild they wouldnt be joined at the hip they would fly about and be separated...and really only come together TO BREED.

if your looking for permission...to put them back together...there will be plenty of folks who will tell you its ok and they have their birds together yada yada but...to make SURE of no egglaying this is best

and they, the other people, will not be the ones paying vet bills and losing a bird YOU WILL.

and separated in different rooms allows easier daylight adjustment times for the female and if you regulate the food you feed her this is PERFECT a male should NOT have to undergo the different treatment to or for a female just because a owner THINKS their birds need to be closer...its JUST NOT TRUE.

Please REMOVE our human logic and emotions from this equation.
