I've had two parakeets for around six months now, and they're quite comfortable with me. When I change their food and water, they'll fly to the back of the cage, and sometimes they won't move at all. I'm now thinking of hand-training them. The problem is, the cage they're in has only one, long perch, fixed onto the sides.
I read that you're supposed to approach them with a perch, but how do I do it? I've tried approaching Sora (one of my parakeets)with my finger, and she doesn't mind it. But I can't get her to hop on.
Any advice?

well they are not quite as comfortable as you would like to think if when you change food and water they move to the furthest point AWAY from you.

For training purposes its almost impossible to train two keets in the same cage...and they should be separated for a few reasons one being...training but the other being...you dont know their sexes yet and they are rapidly reaching a point of maturity where they would mate if of opposite sexes and you realllllly DONT want that...

also now because they are of this age to separate now ...is going to be a major training issue in and of itself to get them use to being separated but THAT is where id start and doing it soon is well for the better.

your thinking one is a she but you cant be positive as of yet that it is...

best advice...for training ...separate each to their own separate cages...then your at square one doing that as they will now find it harder to be apart than if you had done this right away ...BUT they will get use to it. Training should of began much earlier than this...but where they are not separated you would more than likely be at the same place with all of this that you are now anyway.

also read the thread...separating male from female...and welcome to the forum
