Hello Parakeetnames.

I get the impression that you are genuinely interested in parakeets and, on that basis, you are very welcome to join in with the conversations on this board, but please do not include links to sales ventures. Your posts must not include advertising. Thank you. smile

Hi all..for those that were concerned about the little greeny coloured parakeet, Polly, that was living in dirty and poor conditions...no need to worry. I have her now and she is clean, contented and happy, living in a cage next to my Rosellas. She`s a little uncertain as yet when i give her treats as its something she never had. Now she gets proper food to suit her small bill, greens, millet and fresh clean water every day, which she often bathes in. Her feathers had no natural oils left in them, but now it`s begining to build up again and her colour has improved. Ill post another picture of the new improved Polly when i can get one sorted out.

That's awesome salyummz! So now that it's cleaned up a bit do you think it's a Bourke?
Soo glad you stepped in and ended up adopting it. Many complain about conditions but don't DO anything about it.
YOU did. I'm sure Polly is very grateful and happy now.
Kudos to you smile

Yes we'd love to see pics!

Hi Everyone!

What is the status of the little green budgie...Polly..? How is she doing since she was removed from the abusive and digusting living conditions. When I look at Blossom's environment and how enriched she is, it breaks my heart to see that someone would treat a beautiful, precious creature like that...Please advise on her condition.

Awaiting News,

Preciousbaby and Blossie!

some peoples feelings and emotions can go from one extreme to another...

such as treating pets like humans case in point...dressing them...or transferring our human emotions to them believing theirs is the same level and depth... and as a result actually do a injustice to them.

others treat them like home decorations part of a decor...

and some of us just spoil with love but yet also remember they are not human but just loving loyal intelligent animals...and recognize.... the hand that feeds them... smile

I sometimes have to be reminded that Blossie is not my child. I get too caught up with her...I just love her so much and I do spoil the heck out of her!!!

I just enjoy her antics and I can't imagine my home without a budgie!

Ok here she is..MY Polly..Hopefully you can see how much she is improving from the first pic i took when my friend had her. Still not sure if she`s a bourke or grass Parakeet, maybe someone can tell for sure. The turquoise has come out more now in her wing feathers and there`s orangy red in her tail now to match those pretty socks of hers..she`s still a little tatty round the edges but as her feathers improve so will that hopefully. (I also clipped her nails which were almost growing back into her legs).
She`s still got a way to go yet but ill get her there with love and proper care. smile

hmmm I don't know what she is. I THINK grass keets are a type of Bourke?
She really does look sooo much better. She looks happier..and even PROUD. Good job!
I know we say it alot here, but do you know how important Vit A is for healthy feathers? Will she eat veggies? Like sweet potato and or carrots? Or try some crushed red pepper added to her seed mix?

Nekton makes a bird vitamin specially formulated for feather growth. It's called Nekton Bio. http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=6165 I know it's pretty pricey, if you get some you might want to shop around for best price, but Nekton products are very good and I think little Polly would benefit from the Bio.
Thanks for the update and the new pic. Makes my heart happy to see how much better she looks and feels smile
Keep up the good work

She is such a little doll! Look how proud and straight she is perching!!! Oh, I could just kiss her! Great Job with saving this little girl. I really don't know what kind of bird she is. Maybe the more experienced birdkeepers can give some feedback.

I wish you luck, love and health with little Polly!

she..which you dont know for sure is a she without a blood test,.. is a PIONUS...pronounced PIE OH NUS ...and id remove that branch now as it has a JUTTING sharp part to it which she could cause some SEVERE injury to herself on...and begin to do a lot of reading on the Pionus and learn about her background and needs...she needs fruits and veggies and best to as mentioned read the diet requirements as DIET has much to do with conditioning along with frequent misting or bath offerings.

they are also prone to VIT A DEFICIENCY so watch that big time and your bird IS seriously lacking VIT A as the feathers are not tight and are wispy...get some VIT A into that birds diet it will also help build more muscle mass and it shows it could use this as well.

Just google Pionus for info.

how large is the cage ???

thanks also for getting back to all of us laugh
