Here's what I did - it's all about placement in the cage. If the entire cuttlebone is above perch level, it is scarier. Put your cuttlebone right next to a perch, so it is about half above the perch level, and half below. Somehow, Scout found that to be far less intimidating, and the very day I did that he started to use it.

i gotta try that. right now i have two in sky's cage (doing an experiment) and he only uses his a little each day. maybe that'll help.

Some keets just don't like to gnaw. For example females tend to like to gnaw a lot because they had to hollow out trees to build nests - males don't tend to gnaw much. But there are always exceptions. I really wouldn't obsess about a keet gnawing or not gnawing. It's like worrying about a keet playing or not playing with a certain toy. Keets do what they want to do
