I agree with birdfriend. But, no that's not quite big enough for the 2. But if you can't PLEASE don't try to mix species. Something could go terribly wrong btwn. the two. EVEN if they are the best of pals, they are different sizes and could kill each other. So I suggest when you get a cockatiel, get another cage that's made for a cockatiel. =]

Well, I cant have two cages for a long period of time. I have seen many people that have them together and are fine. Not just on this form but in my area. I think I know of 6 in my area.

I will think about a bigger cage. Cockatiel and parakeet have the same cage types. All it is, that the cockatiel needs for room. They both take 1 and a half bar spacing.

But I am not sure how they act. If they dont like each other then I will have to get two cages.

I dont want to get another parakeet becauses they might breed. And a corrding ot you tread you say that you stongly suggest not to breed them. I dont even know if Noel is a boy or girl. She has a white cera.

I dont plan on having them together for a long time. About 1 year or so. Noel is really playfull. She likes to play with other birds. When I got her she was playing with a cockatiel. I felt really bad when I seperated them. They were preening each other, eating millit togther, playing with the bell together. And all of the was through the cage bars. So i think ones she is hand traned i will give it a try with the cockatiel. If the fite I will buy the cockatiel it own cage.

That's a beautiful cage! All I can say is WOW!!

Noel: It's always best to start two birds off in different cages, because you need to have that time to find out if the new one has any illnesses, and then, also so that they can slowly get to know each other, you keep the cages side by side.

I was able to get a really cheap small temporary cage at the bird show. I kept Scouser in it until I could rearrange the keets and get him a larger one. At one bird show the cages went for $4 each just for a small one. So, if you get an English Budgie or a regular keet you could keep them in the tiny cage until they get to know each other.

Noel- your keet is a girl like birdfriend said. whenever you get a new bird(s) you SHOULD REALLY quarentine the new one(s) to check for illnesses that can show up and get the other bird(s) sick and during that time you can handtrain the bird too away from the other one(s)... if you're getting a cockatiel, I'd suggest like I said before just getting a cockatiel cage and just letting the 2 just play together, but sleep in different cages. Just because others have diff. species together, doesn't mean any 2 birds you stick together will get along! If you put them together w/o quarantining the new one then they could get into a huge fight, end up killing each other, and in the meantime you wouldn't have another place to seperate them into diff. cages! that would be REALLY bad. So pleasssssssse...get another cage that's made for a cockatiel and just keep them seperate and slowly introduce them during playtime.

I agree, I mean look at the size difference all it would take is probably one bite attack from the tiel and it's all over for the keet and the fact that you said you cant have two cages is especially dangerous if they didn't get along. If that was to happen would you be able to leave and get another cage to assure the safety of both birds?

What I ment was I can have a small cage and a large cage. Not 2 large cages. I dont think I am ready for a cockatiel. I think I will get another parakeet. And if the breed I quess they breed. I have breed tons of stuff and have found wonderfull homes for them.

If the breed i will probly keep 2 of them. The rest will go to the local petstore or the bird lady in my area who love's birds.

I am just planing ahead so I can talk to my parents about it.

I do not plan on breeding really. It would be nice to have 4 keets though. Noel just looks really lonely.

Little Story. I started out with 1 little 1 gallon fish tank. Two years latter. I have 8!

Same with hamester. They breed 2 time I kept all the babyies so i had like 8 hamster in 6 cages all conected around the room. LOL I dont keep hamsters any more.

aaaandd: I had hamsters before birds...they bred, and had 28 babies!!!!!!!!!! But I think 8 died b/c of course it was a huge litter and some (more than one) were runts and were too small to survive...I of course couldn't keep all of them!

But right now, I have 10 fish, 1 firebellied newt, 4 keets, and 1 horse!!!

I am doing tons of research on how to tell the sex of parakeets and breeding. I know it seems early but before i got noel I did research for 6 months! LOL Noel is 5 months old now!
