how did you guys learn to clip wings? I want a parrot, just a quaker, but a parrot still this spring, or summer, whichever. I understand they are born in may. I'll need to wait till he's 8 wks to bring him home. But, I'm going to get both a bird harness, and one of those things like a papoose carrier thats a cage for your chest. Hopefully! I see the mfg. is supposedly going out of business, and I can't get it yet. But I am not going to let him like fly around outside or anything. The harness is for extra protection. But I wouldn't use one on one of my keets. We have a great back porch, even tho its an apt. My fiance' has this great bamboo screen that we can roll up or let down. And it comes all the way down and covers the whole area, minus a teensy bit on either side. Now, my keets are not hand tamed, so noboby gets to come outa the cage in that area, BUT this spring, I'll be able to roll their cage out there, with the blind pulled down (its got a lanyard, no cats can get in it, its actually held down, plus of course, I'll be where I can see them. So my keets/finches will get to go out there, and I will also take my quaker out there for some alone time in the nice weather. Just him and me. MUHAHAHAHA, then, even tho the blind is down, he'll be required to wear a harness w/leash. But I gotta know how to clip wings! Who can teach me?

One word of advice...DO NOT CLIP YOUR PARAKEETS WINGS BY YOURSELF! Take them to a pet store....We have a pet store here in michigan that does Verde's wings and nails for 5 bucks. (Total...wings and nails, not 5 for each) The reason i tell you this is that if you cut your birds feathers in a certain spot, or too short, you can make them bleed, and with the little blood they have, they can die within seconds. Im sure i could eventually learn if i really wanted to, but its much safer to have a pro do it...Plus, i think they said you only want to do like 10 feathers at a time...Its a very tedious process...your bird might move the wrong way, and bam, you clip that vein in his wing....They know how to carefully hold birds, so that doesnt happen...
