I'm so mad they're making a movie. Thats the worst thing anyone can do to a book! ESPECIALLY when I'm not in it!

I have to agree that the movie will be completely
altered... to a painful level. what makes the novel is Brown's ability to create suspense and he does this by leading the reader to a climactic question and switching to another equally intense but different thread. I just can't see this working in film! the gentle unravelling of the story will be lost.

Grace - actually that threading is exactly how many other books work - for example Lord of the Rings. In LOTR three separate storylines interwove constantly, and the movie was brilliant. So it's not that part that bothers me

Russell Crowe was originally considered but now Tom Hanks is definitely in. You'll find many false rumors on the web The trick is to figure out which one is the latest one and on a reputable source.

The question is whether they're going to preserve the international flavor of the book, a la the casting of Name of the Rose, or make it a "US Disney version of Europe", a la most other Hollywood movies People wonder why the world has such a low view of Hollywood, but considering how we foist films claiming to be about their countries, it's no surprise. Most of our movies about ancient Egypt and Rome are filled with white British and US actors, and no blacks. Hmmmmm.

I have to agree in saying that I don't see Tom Hanks playing this part. Don't get me wrong, Hanks is a magnificent actor, but this just doesn't seem like something that he would fit into. I actually had pictured Langdon sort of looking like Kevin Kline as I read the book. Maybe that's just me, but I think that he would fit better than Tom here.

I'm really excited for this movie to be made, but I dont think Tom Hanks is the right person for Robert Langdon. I think they need to find a new face to play him because i'm sure everyone has a different person pictured in there head about him and when they cast someone who everyone is already to fimilar with it kinda ruinsit.

As for Sophie, i think the she should be played by Audrey Tautou. I have seen her in many films, he is french, and matchs the description perfectly. I believe she was considered and i am hoping that the director will take another look at her.

It's a tough thing, Flames, but it can actually be done. When they cast for Lord of the Rings for example they used some very well known actors - and *that* is a book that people have studied their entire lives. I know many people who have read the books 20 times or more. I know I have, while growing up. But they did an awesome job of finding actors who really fit the characters perfectly.

I think you *could* find a great Robert Langdon who matched the descriptions given in the two books ...

I agree that Tom Hanks is a great actor and is amazing in many films. It just doesn't seem that he matches the character described in the books.

We'll see who they cast as Sophie! The latest news is that it begins filming in May 2005, so they have to choose their full cast soon ...

I don't know. I just finished listening to the audiobook version of DVC which I got for Christmas (appropriately;) and I had the impression that it could basically be filmed off as it was. Sure enough, the audiobook is an abridged version (singned off by DB) leaving of most of the not-so-factual background facts, but the story backbone should be fairly straightforward.
