When i read the book i pictured myself an actor unknown to everyone, because if Langdon is a known actor you kind of get the feeling that you know him. And it would be better if the movie (because people are already starting to think this movbie is going to be complete junk), had a fresh start and is not based on a character we already know.
Hey hey, now I've hit the nail on the head with whom I think would've been great for the part: Bruce Campbell! Now don't disregard this out of a spontaneous knee-jerk reaction to the name just think ---> Bubba Ho-tep!! was that not some amazing acting?! Seriously
you know, i just saw "girl with a pearl earring" last night and something really bugged me...i never read the book, but im thinking its written in the same way as dvc, in the sense that there are a lots of internal monologues going on in the characters heads. any way, in the movie there were scenes that the characters didnt say anything at all, and it would go on and on for a few minutes. granted, i caught it about 1/2 hour after it started, but it bugged me to know that it would take a character about 10 mins to say something. i just wonder if the dvc movie would be the same...anyone whose seen the movie agree?
Langdon's what, 45 in the book? So, Bruce Campbell is 46 (22 June 1958) so he's about the right age for the part maybe a little too beefy though to be honest.. Spacey is 45 (26 July 1959) so he's right on too. And yeah come to think of it he'd be pretty good for the role.. although if George Clooney could lose his smug "I'm such a chick magnet bachelor cool-dude" attitude I could picture him in the role easily

Clooney was given that image through having a stethoscope round his neck, i think it was unavoidable. Lets face it , you are not going to refuse the adoration if it comes your way, but putting that aside ,he is a very good actor who could carry the part of Langdon, but Spacey's the one i can imagine to make it work.
I thought i was not far off with the age ,thanks kamsquiz .
Heard today that Ron Howard is directing and Tom Hanks is playing Langdon (Yuck!). Heard this directly from a movie camera man here in Los Angeles. I thought Clooney would have been fab in the role.

Well, we're only a few months away from shooting now, so we should make our hotel reservations to be on site. That is of course they ARE going to shoot it in the actual locations. Knowing how Hollywood likes to be, who knows, they may shoot it in Toronto and put up a cardboard tower in the background
