Maybe I'm wrong so! Its just that I never saw it wriiten anywhere in the bible. And I just meant that as you say in hindsight they could be seen as the first priests. cool

Admittedly, I did have one of my scary-Catholic friends (Now former friend) tell me that even if I Baptized the baby she was still the product of an evil relationship because her father & I were not married, I worshipped her father & that our offspring would in turn, be evil. Nice.[quote]

Lovely!I guess that makes my brother and I sins too! Our parents were not married when we were born either. I don't understand why being married should effect the kind of life a child has. We've had a wonderful unbringing and are perfectly normal even though the folks only married 7 years ago after 13 years together. cool

I'd trust my own instincts and conscience. I don't have a lot of faith in priests, though I have, indeed, met some really nice ones.

Sophie... I agree... I look at that little face and my heart feels like the Grinch's heart and grows 3 times it's normal itty-bitty size!
HA HA HA
Your parents-And I may get blasted for this-are an anamoly as most men don't buy the cow if they are getting the milk for free. My boyfriend of 3 1/2 years dumped me when I told him I was pregnant-Not because he doubted the baby was his, but because he didn't feel ready for fatherhood.
I had his wages attached. laugh
(o/' o/' ...18 years, she got you for 18 years...o/' o/')
As for my friend...Maybe she's a little, um, psycho, or something??
smile
I am going to teach my children to not have sex before marriage not out of fear of God, but out of respect for themselves.
I know too many people that are cavalier with their bodies and it's sad...
There IS a HUGE difference between jumping into bed with a random stranger and someone that you love, and have been with for years.
A priest explained that my relationship with Christ is personal, and where NO Christian religion condones pre-marital sex, if I felt like me being intimate with my boyfriend of several years whom I love, who loves me and who I see myself marrying is not standing in the way of my relationship with Christ, then who is he, or the Church, to tell me it's wrong?
Interesting point.
And surprisingly...progressive... for a Catholic priest.
Whodda thot????

Certainly is!

Although I have heard a rather strange saying from Catholics, which must be based on the belief that everyone has pre-marital sex these days, and that is that it is the 'good' girls who have illegitimate babies - while the 'bad' girls are using contraceptives (or even having abortions).

PDM-GOOD POINT!
It's a total no-win situation!
They are touting the "Natural Family Planning" route, BUT, if you are STILL thwarting conception, why is that not considered sinful??
Weird.
I don't know that birth control necessarily empowers women, but being able to speak their mind should, and we need to do it more often.
So what if some cranky old virgins in Rome try to keep us down?? Who the heck are they???
We need to treat ourselves like Goddesses then everyone else will follow!!!

The traditional Catholic teaching says that, not only is contraception wrong.....it's also a sin to have sex outside of marriage. If we are being strictly traditional, then it is also a sin to have sex at all unless you specifically want to have a child, and it is also a sin to enjoy it! You must also not have sex on a Sunday or a holy day, and you should not be naked during the event.

To be fair few priests are as strict as this nowadays!

I get the impression that, traditionally, the Christian Church generally saw sex before, after & during marriage as a sin.

Why else would the RC church be against contraception?
Because the only time sex is acceptable, is if it is for procreation - to increase God's flock. It's a necessary evil (yet priests, etc, indulge).

Why else would 'Mary mother of God' have to remain a perpetual virgin?

Why the furore over a suggestion that Jesus might have had a lover?
Why no less a furore at the thought of him being married?
Why is that insulting blasphemy?

I think that sex before marriage could, quite obviously, leave women in an extremely vulnerable position - so it was considered inadvisable, but this was an opportunity for the Church to make it into a hell-worthy sin.

Joe-
When one of my friends was married recently, one of HER scary-Catholic friends gave her a brochure of approved sexual positions.
XXX??
If it brings you closer to your spouse, strengthens your relationship, doesn't involve 3rd parties or animals, then how could it be wrong?
Sorry, the Catholic Chruch-And nobody else for that matter-does NOT belong in my bedroom.
