I must admit to being bemused at the Australian attitude when "little Johnny" turned away a boat load of refugees and sent them back from whence they came. we saw one particular news item with some Aussie having their opinion, it went something like this:

"Yeah aye, sends dem back aye, coupla days yeah, fully sick man, we don wan dem immigrants here aye man"

They were Greek. (excuse the accent)

There was a blurb on Fox news last night-that brought this thread back up. Wolverhampton in the UK has after several years gone back to Christmas decorations and programs (vs Winter Festival) at the urging of local Moslems (including a Moslem council member)--it seems they found the whole Winter Festival stuff condescending rather than honoring multi-culturalism.

Yes, Kateyes, I mentioned this earlier and found it most encouraging.

I'm a bit concerned about another story I read in the paper, though, about the Hindu Mayor of Preston who has cancelled the annual Mayoral Christmas carols because he allegedly finds them inappropriate.

He says that his family wouldn't want to attend and sing carols. Others say that he should be representing his town and not promoting his own religion.

He is arranging an Asian / Caribbean music event in the New Year instead, apparently.

I would like to hear more about just exactly what is going on, here, but I don't like what I have heard so far. The trouble is, you don't always get the full story from a newspaper.
