A few years ago - 1997 I think - Birmingham wasn't allowed to celebrate 'Christmas', it had to be the more politically correct 'Winterval'!!
It caused a lot of upset and the council soon learned that this was a mistake. Christmas came back.
Now, as Britain is planning its seasonal festivities, Lambeth Council has decided to outlaw Christmas lights. They can be called 'Winter' lights or 'Celebration' lights. Apparently they don't want to upset Moslems and other non-Christians. I think this is ludicrous. The Moslems I know are perfectly happy about Christmas.
Apparently, Lambeth Council says that the Midwinter season is not just about Christmas, but also about the celebrations of other religions, so this diversity has to be acknowledged.
What do you think?
