I'd be interested in your thoughts on this item from 'The Daily Mail', Nov. 18th. 2005:

'Historian David Irving has been arrested in Austria for speeches he made there 16 years ago in which he allegedly claimed the mass slaughter of Jews never happened.

'If tried and convicted he could face up to ten years in jail. Denial of the Holocaust is a criminal offence in Austria.'

Deniers of the Holocaust have always amazed me. And not in a good way. There is overwhelming pictoral, written and eyewitness accounts of the event. How on earth could someone pursue that idea and be an intelligent person at the same time? Boggles the mind to be sure.

I did not know it was illegal to deny the Holocaust in Austria. Maybe that's a good thing. Perhaps it prevents others from propagating such nonsense.

Next they'll be telling us that the world is not round, but flat!!

But the world is flat.....Isn't it? Like a dinner plate I've seen the pictures taken from space and that's what it looks like to me :rolleyes: :p

I never got the flat thing--even when it wasn't round--there were mountains and valleys so it wasn't really flat :p

This link seemed topical again as the President of Iran has made 2 or 3 speeches on the last week calling the Holocaust a "myth"--and suggesting that as Europeans were responsible that Israel be moved to Europe, the United States, Canada or Alaska. It is frightening to me that seeming intelligent people like David Irving, and this Iranian guy can actually believe that the Holocaust did not occur! I think we are all familiar with the term "revisionist History" but do you really think in another 2 or 3 hundred years people will believe it did not occur????

As a historian I think that could be possible.

Experts will say one thing and then others may come up with counter-arguments and cite these people's 'testimony' as evidence.

Perhaps this is why the person of Jesus is refuted? After all, many believe records were destroyed in Judea after the fall. And later, the records of Rome were too!

I know history is constantly being re-written as new information is found--and there are a variety of groups in the United States that deny the Holocaust--it just makes the future a bit scary, to think that such horrific things can happen and not be believed.

My contribution today to keeping the memory of the Holocaust alive for future generations to mourn. This article is about an alleged Nazi doctor who was never convicted but nonetheless had strong evidence against him concerning his crimes. Thank God he is gone. A terrible shame he was never jailed for his atrocities.
