When I was about 12, a few girls from school had a Hallowe'en party. We were playing 'games', except that they weren't really games and we were not old enough to realise what we were getting into. We were doing 'levitation' and using a 'ouija' board. Well, we scared ourselves silly and were very upset in school the next day. Eventually some of the teachers twigged when some girls were crying and others were hysterical. So parents need to double-check what's going to happen at these parties. I disagree with this one. I remember one Christmas ( I believe 12), I got an Ouija board from my mother. When I asked her if it were bad, she said "Look who makes it." She was right. Parker Brothers. From that point it was just a fun thing to do at sleepovers, Us girls over-reacted at any little sound, were spooked, and had an awesome sleepover. Within 2 years I was using it as a table tray. It's harmless fun. I've never doubted my faith over a ouija board. And also, If we're noting the Pagan belief's that have come with the holiday's let's look at Easter... Eggs? Bunny Rabbits...hmmm sounds like Pagan signs of Fertility and Spring that the Christian of the day adopted as symbols of Easter to convert the Pagans to Christianity. [/b]Originally posted by PDM: Christianity is full of pagan themes ~ and people can become very troubled through playing with ouija boards. They aren't toys, whoever may make them. Originally posted by Viggo_and_Pigs_Mom: The Ouija board was invented by E.C. Reiche, Elijah Bond, and Charles Kennard in the early 1890's, and then improved upon and mass marketed by William Fuld. The board didn't originate with swamis, emanate from the mysterious East, or anything like that. It was invented and marketed by American businessmen hoping to make a buck. As to what makes the pointer move? An effect similar to that which occurs in dowsing, known as the ideomotor effect. This is a fancy name for involuntary/unconscious movement, such as a dowser's hand flicking enough to move his stick when he passes over an area he knows has water. The basic point is that your muscles can move without your consciously thinking, "move to the word YES." suggestions can be made to the mind by others or by observations. Those suggestions can influence the mind and affect motor behavior. What is purely physiological, however, appears to some to be paranormal.
Simply try it blindfolded, having an innocent bystander take notes on what letters are selected. Usually, the result will be unintelligible nonsense."

I feel what may of started out by Parker Brothes as a simple harmless game, is really a wolf in sheeps clothing so to speak. "Precursors to the Ouija date back to ancient times. In China before the birth of Confucius (c. 551 B.C.), similar instruments were used to communicate with the dead. In Greece during the time of Pythagoras (c. 540 B.C.) divination was done with a table that moved on wheels to point to signs, which were interpreted as revelations from the "unseen world." The rolling table was used through the nineteenth century. Other such devices were used by the ancient Romans as early as the third century A.D., and in the thirteenth century by the Mongols. Some Native Americans used "squdilatc boards" to find missing objects and persons, and obtain spiritual information. In 1853 the planchette came into use in Europe. It consisted of a triangular or heart-shaped platform on three legs, one of which was a pencil. The medium or user moved the device over paper to draw pictures and spell out messages." http://www.yourgoingtohell.com/ouija.html I had some very bad experiences as a teen with the Ouija board, enough to scare the wits out of me. I feel it is a portal it opens the door to the dark spirit side and by using the Ouija board and saying do we have someone here... well you just invited them in I agree with PDM, this is not a toy or something to take lightly.
