To those who have a had a sibling pair of parakeets.
I had a sibling pair of parakeets named BURR AND DEE and BURR just died recently. I am in the need of advice from someone who has had a sibling pair of parakeets and experienced a loss from one of the two. Just recently, I tried to have BURR perch on my finger which he usually would but instead decided to jump on the stick then afterwards flew around a little too rough and broke his neck. I cried a puddle of tears because both of my birds made my day by singing to each other and had conversations going on between the two. Should DEE get a new friend but in a separate cage? One time my roommate brought over a finch and I noticed both BURR and DEE were very dominate over the finch. Now that BURR is gone, will DEE act differently if I got him a friend? The only reason I don't is because I also have two cats who are never in the same room with each other.

dee doesnt need a new friend ...dee will of course notice that burr is not around but they quickly adjust with attention from you...in fact dee maybe even more content in a short bit and a newcomer doesnt mean they would get along at all and dee may find competing for attention a bit stressful

so sorry to hear of your tragic loss for sure ...this is never easy and we have a tendency for awhile to blame ourselves for things ...be kind to yourself...and welcome to the forum.

Sorry for your loss :C I lost my bird Gray who was bonded with my other bird Mcnugget around a year and a half ago. I looked in the cage he was fine then next thing I knew when I looked against I didn't see him. He was laying on the cage floor I took him out in my hands and rushed to a vet. He died in my hands on the way and I was heart broken. It took Mcnugget about 1-2 weeks to adjust and even after that he wasn't as talkative. I took him to a avian vet just to make sure he was ok and he was. He'd sing from time to time and had energy bursts. Now he is a bit quiet and chirps back at my other keet Pineapple when she chirps but he is a healthy keet. Though if the bird is trained and isn't afraid of you it may make it easier for the keet to adjust smile I'd wait awhile to get another parakeet you can read my forum post " New Parakeet with old parakeet and cleaning". There are a lot of posts on it ,but illusive Fantasy (<----very knowledgeable) explained a lot of things to me. For now though I'd just give your bird time to adjust and bond with it. Then if later on you feel its time to add another parakeet to your family then go for it smile

just remember...its NOT necessary to add another to keep the first one "happy"...and could in fact cause additional issues. smile
