Baths tend to help while molting. The water softens up the pins and helps the itchiness. I know he's new, but you might want to start offering a bath. Or at least some dripping wet greens to bathe on. They like to roll and rub on wet greens. Like romaine or green leaf lettuce and parsley.

i would order some of this but dont get more than this and only feed during a moult..just a decent pinch on top of seeds and sorta stir it up with the seed...

this doesnt keep well so be sure once moult is over if any is left just discard and be sure to seal as air tight as possible...
