Hi, I recently got another budgie after not having one for years. We got him in September of this year. In the store he was very curious of my finger and just seemed like he wanted to play. So I brought him home and he was pretty much stepping on my finger the same day. We would take him out everyday when either of us got home from work and put him in another play area around where we would be and he was very gentle. So gentle in fact that he didnt even have a strong enough bite to crack the larger seeds. However, starting about two weeks ago he started biting harder and harder and almost attacking anyone who put their hand in his cage. Its gotten progressively worst as the days have gone on. We dont pull away or get aggressive with him when he bites but just want to find out why hes so angry. Hes even started making warning sounds before he strikes. Any ideas?

It could be that something in the environment is upsetting him. Make sure it's a gentle temperature that stays even throughout the day and night. Make sure you cover him at night and that he gets a solid 8+ hours of dark quiet. Make sure during the day he has people to talk to and music when nobody is around so he doesn't get scared. I'd start there.

Thank you for the response. The only thing from your list that I'm missing is the radio for when no one is home. I've learned his body language enough where I know when he will strike and try to avoid those situations. Whats strange is that he doesnt like hands or fingers behind him or touching his back but I can put my face on his back without any warning noises or strikes.

For a bird there is no concept of petting like cats or dogs. Cats and dogs are groomed by their moms so they think petting is a nice thing. Birds are not licked by their parents. To them, something creeping up behind them is a very bad thing.

A face is probably more like the mommy bird sitting on the chicks. So it's less threatening.

So it's a good idea to approach from the front and do all the finger training where you are visible and it's more like a branch coming toward them, and less like an owl about to pounce on them smile
