Hydrometer

Hydrometer

A hydrometer is used to measure the specific gravity of your wine, which tells you the percentage of alcohol in the wine. This is important to know, to figure out when to add certain ingredients or when to perform certain steps. Find a hydrometer that's easy to use and resistant to breakage.

One thing you might want to do is just verify that it's working properly. The documentation will tell you which temperature your hydrometer is set for. At that temperature, measure the specific gravity of water. It should be 1.000.
