Food and Wine Magazine's Official Wine Guide

The version of this book I saw was from 1998, and it's almost a window into time. It starts by acclaiming that "France is the undisputed ground zero of world wine culture." Really? I certainly enjoy French wines, but this statement is a bit much.

In the wine listing areas, say you go to California. If you're looking for Viognier, you have to look under "Rhone Style wines" and know to find it there. They only have a few wineries under each wine type, with a star rating for a single vintage.

I really have to hope they have improved since 1998, because this one is nearly unusable as is.
