Red Wine Sangria Recipes
Red wine is the ultimate in sangria creation. When people go to a restaurant and order a glass of "sangria" they expect to see something red with fruit in it and a kick from the brandy or liqueur. Sangria first came to the US at the 1964 World's Fair, but its predecessor, Claret Cup, had been enjoyed by Jane Austen and by Civil War society. The idea of red wine and fruit has a long history.
If you're going for ultimate authenticity you'll want to use a red wine from Spain - Rioja, rich, rustic, full of character. If you're just out for fun, there are a wide variety of red wines you can use, each with its own flavor combinations. Mix and match to find your own personal favorites!

Note: I created these sangria recipes and have had them online for years. If you find similar sangria recipes elsewhere, it's because someone copied my idea. I do appreciate it when visitors write in to warn me about the plagiarism - but usually there's not much I can do about it! What's really funny is when they copy my design right down to my sangria pitcher. That's a bit much :)
