On a bit of a tangent, think about this (which I was saying to Marge last night):

My Mother was born in 1925. A "western" I was reading was set in 1888 and had a covered wagon in the story. It started me thinking (again). That's not quite 40 years. Two generations?

So from my great grandparents time until now? Eighty to a hundred years? 4 to 5 generations? A little more?

Think of all the changes we've seen in the world. And those who have family older than us, think what they've seen.

We can be thankful for life.

I can't even imagine the hardships they faced back then.Especially the sicknesses. Losing little babies and children to disease we now have vaccines for.
I actually love talking to the older generation. You're right, it's amazing all they've seen and experienced in their time.
We should all count our blessings. We actually live in a pretty cushy world compared to back in the day.

Yet, I don't think the older generation complained all that much.
Do you think they were happier and more content than us?

Maybe they were. Or maybe they were just stronger? IDK but I don't think anyone is happy or content now days. It seems like the more people have, the more they want. Never satisfied. It's crazy! frown
But all in all I think we have lots to be thankful for. Even though we live in a totally screwed up world...

It does seem like people are more prone to complain about their situations than do something about them nowadays (including me). But I would like to think that when the chips are down, people are still people.

On the news the other night they're saying that with the economy in crisis, fewer people are giving to the resource centers for homeless and crisis shelters.

Rather than a meal and an item of clothing on occasion, I'd wish people everywhere freedom from poverty and hunger and disease - and a place to call home.

Maybe we can't do much, but we can be thankful for what we've got. And I don't just mean rollover minutes.

I saw this on the internet...I thought it was interesting, comparing past Thanksgivings and telling a little about what was happening then.

I love Thanksgiving it is such a great celebration!

Older people will always say - it was way better in our time - i don't know why ... probaly because they feel not more confortable, but i guess we will be the same when we are old.
Every Gereration is happy in their time and that is the most important!

Perhaps we should start celebrating 'Thanksgiving' over here.
It would do everyone good to focus on the things that they should be grateful for. smile
