Someone from Kentucky wrote me asking how to get their hands on Irish wine. They had someone visiting from Ireland and wanted to serve them Irish wine while they were visiting.

Here is my response!

-------------------------------------------

I don't think it's possible smile I talk about Irish wineries here -

These are TINY wineries that only sell at their own location. Most Irish people have never drunk an Irish wine! They drink beer and hard liquor smile If you have an Irish guest you should look into some great Irish beer, the times I've been to Ireland I rarely if ever saw any Irish person drinking wine.

Also, let's even go on the far stretch that they are a wine drinker. They probably drink primarily French wines, since Ireland and England are right next to France. That's what most people in those countries do.

And even that being said, they are coming all the way to the US, the last thing they want is to drink boring things they can drink all the time back home. They want to drink "local" stuff! Pour them some Kentucky wines!

I think they'll very surprised if served an Irish wine smile

Much better to serve a local wine that they cannot otherwise taste.

Oh I forgot to mention before if they REALLY had to have an Irish wine for some reason, they might be able to get their hands on mead. The meads I see (which admittedly is fairly rarely and only in large wine stores) are often from England or Ireland.

But with all the things you could serve someone from Ireland, I can't imagine their eyes lighting up with delight if you pulled out an Irish mead when they're trying to explore the US smile

Heck Kentucky is famous for its bourbon!

If looking for Mead on next visit to these shores go to Holy Island, Lindisfarne Abbey, the monks make Mead, free tastings, word of advise, look around the Island first, is a stunning place, then try the Mead & do not be tempted to have one for the road, you must get off the Island before the tide turns.

That sounds like fun! I love learning about monks. I thought all your monasteries were destroyed? Were there some that survived?

When you get some spare time, take a look at all you can find about Buckfast Abbey in Devon, think you will enjoy, make sure you read news items about the wine, which is big news at the moment.

Two votes for Buckfast! Maybe I'll have to go visit there sometime, if I can't find a way to ship the wine in smile
