California Winery Reviews

California is the best known wine region in the United States, and one of the top wine regions of the world. In head to head blind tastings, the wines of Napa Valley often top the wines of France and other classic regions. Learn more about the wineries in California, and enjoy my hundreds of Californian wine country photos!

Santa Barbara
Most people now know this region of California as the "Sideways Wine Region". It is located about 2 hours north of Los Angeles, right on the coast, and becomes deluged with tourists each weekend. This is where Miles and Jack waxed philosophical about the beauty of pinot noir.

Napa Valley
The Napa Valley region is just north of San Francisco, near the Pacific coastline. This is of course a valley with vines planted along the slopes of the valley, and this region creates some of the finest wines in the world.

Sonoma
Sonoma is the thin region in between Napa Valley and the Pacific Ocean. While the Sonoma region is very similar to the Napa Valley region in terms of climate, the grapes grown here have a flavor all their own.

Other
There are of course many other wine regions in California, as well as some wineries simply designated as "Californian". Learn more about these lesser known areas. Other Winery Reviews and Photos
