Sideways Wine Tour - Santa Barbara California

The Santa Barbara Wine Region is about 2 hours north of Los Angeles, straight up the coastline. This is perfect for a weekend trip, to walk in the steps of Miles and Jack from the Sideways movie.

First, a summary of the wineries that they went to.

Sanford
The pair begin at Sanford, and extoll this as the best pinot in the area. This is a tiny winery, off the beaten path, but well worth the visit. It's peaceful, quiet, and the wines are pretty tasty.

Kalyra
Miles wasn't very fond of the Kalyra wines - it's more known as a party place than a fine wine establishment. Jack, however, was quite fond of the serving wench, and quickly takes her home.

Firestone
Firestone doesn't even get a name mention - this is the place where the foursome listen to a book discussion, get bored and go wander the barrel room. While the winery doesn't have any pinot noir, its wines are very tasty.

Fess Parker / Frass Canyon
This winery hosted the infamous "drinking of the spit bucket" scene and was renamed for the movie. You don't have to guess why!

In addition to visiting those four wineries, be sure to stop by these other locations made famous by the movie.

Los Olivos Wine Merchant Restaurant
Land of the 4-wine-bottle dinner.

Hitching Post II Restaurant
Where Miles meets his true love.
