Grand View Winery, VermontThe Grand View Winery itself was still closed for the season when I did my trek up into these parts in May 2001, but their outlet in Waterbury Center was open for business. The spacious tasting area was full of interesting wine items as well as several of their wine offerings. Located right next to the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, tour groups often visit both locations as a two-in-one adventure.
The Seyval, another French hybrid grape, is a light white wine, fruity, a bit on the sweet side, and quite smooth. It has won many awards and is done in the German style.
Montmorency Cherry is a tart baking cherry, and their wine was indeed full of that tart cherry flavor, but also generally fruity and light. This would be great for summertime sipping, or even to make sangria out of! The Mac Jack Hard Cider is all apple, and at 5% alcohol was a refreshing, carbonated drink with light apple flavors. Another great summertime drink.
I'm a huge raspberry fan, and enjoyed the raspberry apple blend. This is a great dessert wine - fresh and fruity, light, tart, on the sweet side. Very flavorful. Another dessert wine (to have FOR dessert!) is their Raspberry infusion. This is a blend of raspberry and red grape, very rich and dry, with a good smooth flavor.
In addition to these wines, Grand View also crates several others - rhubarb, blueberry, elderberry, pear, riesling, and even a dandelion wine. They have a large festival each year to kick off the season and release the dandelion wine, which many people adore. If you're ever in the Waterbury area, be sure to swing by either the outlet or the winery itself! The wines are quite tasty, and you'll be sure to bring several home with you to enjoy.
