Snow Farm Vineyards, Vermont
Perhaps the northernmost winery in New England (I'll have to grab a map and plot some points to find out for sure), the Snow Farm Vineyard it located up in the Lake Champlain Islands, in South Hero, Vermont. I had swung by their outlet store down in Waterbury, Vermont at the beginning of the day in May 2001, just in case I didn't make it all of the way up here before they closed. Luck was with me today, though, and I managed to get onto the island and at the winery by 4:30.
The winery is definitely in a quiet part of the world. You follow several dirt roads alongside the surrounding lake before you reach the winery. Birds were chirping, the sun was shining, and a nearby farm was in full operation. Inside, Marilyn was warm and friendly as she led me through the winery's offerings.
