Louisiana Wine Shipping Laws
Louisiana is very hot to be making wine. Does anybody know of any wineries in Louisiana?
Louisiana is a little confusing with its laws. A winery is allowed to direct ship a wine to you ONLY if that wine is not already being handled in the state by a wholesaler. I understand this in part. If the wine is already in a local store, it is maybe "unfairly" competing with that local store to bypass them and go directly to the winery. But then again just because a wholesaler "somewhere" in Louisiana carries a given wine, there's no guarantee that your local wine shop will have it on your shelves or will be willing to get it in for you. You could have to go driving all over Louisiana to track down that wine, vs having it shipped to your house. What if you're disabled and can't get around easily?
In any case, you are able to get shipments in, and I don't see any volume restrictions, so at least Louisiana is better off than states where it is an absolute felony to ship wines!
Let me know if you have any fresh information about Louisiana wine shipping laws! If you have recently had wine shipped in to you here, please let me know how smoothly the experience went. Often the laws say one thing, but FedEx and UPS say another!
