I discovered 'reborn' dolls quite recently, when I was browsing ebay.

I like dolls. I don't collect them, but I find it hard to take my daughter's Barbies to the charity shop, and, if someone hadn't stolen my childhood dolls a few years ago, I would still have them now.

My daughter's baby dolls haven't gone, though. I'm not sure that I could part with them. And, when I used to hold the most realistic one, I did hold it just like a real baby, and I found myself rocking it, as I used to do with my children when they were tiny. It was quite pleasant and soothing. I can understand childless women finding some comfort in one of these.

I have not bought any 'reborns', I must point out, I just looked at the pictures and showed them to my Mum. I joked that when I got old, I'd buy some for company!

I still think that many of them are really beautiful ~ but I also think that there is something just a little spooky about them, too.

I'm guessing that they are used in films in place of real babies and that's a valid place for them. I doubt that many little girls play with them.

What do you think about them?

I've added links below and you can find them on ebay, too.
As you can see, it's a thriving business!

Some article:
My Fake Baby ~ Tim Teeman ~ From The Times, January 3, 2008 '... My Fake Baby .. identified a new industry in dolls made to look and behave like living babies. The people who buy them push them around in prams and wash their hair. The dolls are customised to customers’ specifications: a cut on the knee, a red mark above the eyes, clenched hands. They can even be fitted with a breathing mechanism.' 'The dolls, or “reborns”, are made by Jaime Eaton, a sunny young mother of four who said that after four Caesareans, this would be the “closest” she would get to having more children. “I’ve cried when I’ve let a few of them go,” she admitted.' 'Sue, had quite a few reborns in a spookily beautifully kitted-out nursery. She couldn’t do with the noise of the real thing: “I want them well behaved and clean and the reality isn’t like that,” ...' 'Deeply sinister they all looked too, but the women cooed over these inanimate objects as if they were real, breathing, darling little things.' 'When Christine went to pick up her Harry doll from Jaime, she cried ecstatically: “Nobody will be able to take him away from me this time.” ...'
http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/tv_and_radio/article3122967.ece
My Fake Baby, Channel 4 'Some women spend thousands of pounds on these lifelike dolls ... but they're terrifying. Her creations are realistic. They look like babies, but dead lifeless babies. I apologize for bumping this old topic, but I have done quite a bit of research on this, so I want to share my experience.
Hi im new to this forum and don't want to upset anyone. I have a vinyl reborn like this https://toyboxadvisor.com/most-realistic-baby-dolls which I do buy clothes for. However I have 2 lovely boys 1adult getting married next year and 1aged 9yrs I only bought my reborn girl to give a reason to be able to buy girl clothes but I don't spend much on the doll usually either second hand (which I would never do for my boys) or extremely cheap generally no more than afiver per outfit, I agree to treat it as a real baby is over the top but said I have real babies all be grown but if I didn't how do I know how I would feel I do have thought occasionally about what it would be like to take my reborn shopping for baby girl clothes just once to see what it would be like
