Has everyone checked their avatars & signature images please?
~ That they are within the rules ~ re sizes, etc ~ and that they don't break copyright law?

See:
http://www.wineintro.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=264116#Post264116

Copyright:
Photos must be have been taken by you and be owned by you.
Artwork must be your own work & property.
Alternatively, you must have been given express permission to use the images on this forum.
This is the law!

Size:
Please keep any custom avatars at or below 100 x 100 pixels.
However, as members with multiple keets need a slightly larger image size there is a hard upper limit of size at 320 wide by 240 high.
Signature images must be under 200 pixels in height.

To check sizes, right click on imagrs & go to 'properties'.

My avatar dimensions are 300x240 and most of the avatars I make for people on the forums are this size. That is just barely under the limit and I apologize.

Also, Nancy30 kindly edited and tagged my signature for me and I'm just checking to be sure that it doesn't break any copyright rules.

Thank you,
3bud

yours should be fine 3bud....the pic was not marked r and I did not claim it with my trademark so by law its ok,not sure about the forms tho. some of the rules are a bit extreme tho...but thats just me.

Sorry ~ I don't understand this. confused

What does 'marked r' mean?
What rules are extreme?
Nancy, have you given a photo that you have taken to another member ~ if so, then they have your permission, so that's OK.

The law is that you cannot post a photo, drawing, etc, made by someone else, without their express permission.

Thank you for checking, 3budgies ~ copyright is a very serious matter; not 'rules' but 'law'.

If someone has taken a photo, then it belongs to them ~ regardless of whether or not someone else has edited it ~ and it cannot be posted on the forum unless the owner of the picture ~ usually the photographer unless s/he has waived rights ~ has given permission.

Even then, if the image has been altered, they may wish to withdraw that permission, since agreement would have been for the original image.

While I appreciate that some people may turn a blind eye to this sort of thing, it is breaking the law and Lisa, who has to pay for this forum out of her own pocket, does not want the worry of such an eventuality.

Lisa allows us the privilege of enjoying this forum ~ I try to ensure that it cannot cause her any legal problems. I'm sure that all members will feel the same way.

Ok, so neither me nor Nancy took the photo in my signature, but this is the website I got the picture from. http://www.redjumpsuit.com/banners/ The owner of this site definitely seems to be okay with people usuing his/her pictures because they seem to be promoting the USE of their pictures smile Just let me know what you think, PDM.

Also, the two little "quotes" on the right hand side of my signature are from www.photobucket.com and that is an image sharing site, so I am fairly sure that people on that site are willing to let their pictures be used by others.

Just because photos are on Photobucket doesn't mean that they aren't copyrighted. I have photos on there, but I own the copyright & have not given permission for anyone to use them.

This is from their site:
Quote:
'5. Restrictions

You will not do any of the following while using or accessing the Site or the Services:

a. Post, upload, email, or otherwise transmit (i) any Content that you do not have the lawful right to copy, transmit and display (including any Content that would violate any confidentiality or fiduciary obligations that you might have with respect to the Content); (ii) any Content for which you do not have the consent or permission of each identifiable person in the Content to use the name, voice, signature, photograph, or likeness of each such person (to the extent each is implicated by the Content); or (iii) any Content that infringes the intellectual property rights or violates the privacy rights of any third party (including without limitation copyright, trademark, patent, trade secret, or other intellectual property right, or moral right or right of publicity); ..'

I agree that it does look as if they are happy with the banner being used. Lisa or I will let you know if there is ever a problem with it.
