Resveratrol and AntioxidantsNumerous studies done over the years demonstrate that wine helps fight cancer. Further research indicated that wine contains resveratrol, a natural agent which helps supress cancer. Resveratrol is an antioxidant.
Resveratrol is naturally found in the skin of red grapes. While some used to believe that it was the fermentation process that created the healthy aspsects of wine, we now know that a key part of the health benefit comes from the red grape skin. You get the best benefits from the darker red wines.
It's not just red grape skins which have this abundance of resveratrol. Blueberries are also high in resveratrol.
Resveratrol is thought to help with heart health, Alzheimer's, Huntington's and many other diseases.
Some people aim to find the highest resveratrol wine they can. There isn't enough difference from red wine to red wine to drink a wine you hate just for one tiny iota more of resveratrol. If anything, you're probably less likely to drink the wine and get your health benefits if you dislike it! Instead, aim to figure out which red wines you adore. Drink those red wines.
As we know, stress can contribute to health issues. So your aim should be to be as happy as you possibly can, as stress-free as you possibly can, while eating a healthy diet. By finding a wine you love, you'll be relaxed and happy while you drink it - getting the benefits of both the resveratrol and the stress lowering!
Of course, if you love blueberry wine, or a very dark red wine, then you're doing exceptionally well!
It's worth noting that wine should always be drunk in moderation. Recommendations are one glass a day for women, and two glasses a day for men. If you go beyond that then the damage caused by the alcohol will far outweigh the benefits brought by the resveratrol!
